    I generally believe a safety getting engaged or disengaged is an issue with the safety and not with the holster, with the understanding there could be the odd sweat shield that is either just awful or magic depending on what it does. I don't know how a holster maker could possibly take into account all the different styles of thumb safeties offered by all the different 1911 makers.

    My personal experience with a Colt teardrop thumb safety, with unmolded or even closely fitted deeply molded sweat shields is the condition of the thumb safety is never affected and it merely pushes the sweat shield out of the way.

I corresponded with him after I bought a second one and ASSumed it would have the shelf like the first one did, but he said they were experiencing too much variations in the various 1911 safety levers. He said if you have a pretty typical extended safety they can form the shelf under it.
    I ordered mine last year, so I can't speak to the current website, but there was nothing in the ordering process saying it must or can be requested. I opted to fix it myself.

    Correct, when I got the second one I emailed, and Tony said they had quit doing it unless requested because they had some fit problems when they did it universally. He offered to alter mine, I never sent it to him, but now that you mention it..

    Actually, I could do it myself easier than boxing it up. I should, because the one in question is for the pistol with the ambi safety.

    I like the SME a lot but admittedly don’t carry a 1911 very often. It works better with a stiffer belt. The Specialist is borderline not stiff enough for a fully loaded government. If the SME was more available I would have one for a 17 and for a 226. They’re very comfortable.

    Anyone know if an EDC X9 fits a standard SME for a 1911?

    I agree. I wish this was an option listed on the sight, and not something you learn after the fact on a gun forum.

    FWIW after 500 rounds which included a fair number of draws and additional dry work from the holster, I am not a fan of the thinner "tactical" thumb safety or the low profile slide release. But especially that thinner thumb safety. It's not that I miss it, but it doesn't feel like the confident locked down/locked in purchase I feel on more conventional width thumb safeties. At some point, it'll need to get more conventional parts changed in.

    I can't complain as I bought it used for a price I'd not have dreamed of so no regrets. Just that something this nice may as well be a little closer to my perfect.

    @JHC

    I meant to post earlier but looking at you holster it looks like it's a moot point.

    The wide bullet proof Wilson thumb safety hangs up on the sweat guard on my Milt Sparks summer special some times.

    Nice gun btw. How's it working out?
