    124 +P Gold Dot, G43 and NYPD...

So today, while doing some training with my G42/G43 and P365, I was advised by one of our Range staff to not use the Gold Dot 124+P round with the G43. When asked what that was all about, I was advised the information came from the NYPD, but no further background or explanation was provided. This is the second time i have heard this from our Range staff.
Anyone here know of this? I’m inclined to think it’s some sort of urban legend as a quick Google search came up negative.

I recall hearing reports of early G43s not liking +p ammo but nothing other than anecdotal.

DHS/ICE has had the G43 on its authorized POW list for a couple years now and 124 grain +p is the only 9mm authorized load, used for both training and duty. No issues reported. They arent NYPD big but 2 years and 15,000 LEOs should have been a big enough sample size to bring an issue to light if there was one.

Light weight slide and more load on springs....mass stays consistent....mag springs?

Anyone remember the mysterious "Phase Five" malfunctions that plagued NYPD in the late 90s when they went to Glocks?

I remember that Glock set up a trailer workshop at the NYPD range to diagnose it.

    What ever came of that?

I find no validity to it, based on a good sample of G43s and now comprehensive ammo sampling through G43Xs. Internal case pressure is only one variable in the complex equation of everything happening in the gun. It's a lot like the other oft-stated, "147gr causes problems." One variable, more info required.

I do find the most common variable to G43 problems is magazine extensions.

Correct - last I heard they were still trying to get Glock to make a NY plus trigger spring for the 43 before approving it. I forgot all about that.

Not to diagnose. to modify guns. That was 25 (or more) years ago. TLDR version is this is when Glock switched from the 90 degree extractors to the still current 15 degree extractors. The fact their initial duty load was Winchester white box 115 grain standard velocity FMJ was likely part of the problem. IME Glocks run best on NATO or plus P ammo.

NYPD started migrating to 9mm autos in 1994. They just forced the last 100 some-odd hold outs with revolvers as primary duty guns to convert to autos in the last couple years so it was a 25 year transition.

All I ever feed in my glocks are over pressured rounds. Especially gen 4 and newer. I think they are way over sprung.

Plus P and NATO spec are what 9mm is supposed to be. The weak sauce 115 grain stuff is a U.S. debasement.

Glocks are sprung to be reliable service pistols used with service ammunition (NATO) in harsh environments with little to no maintenance. Your needs may vary.

I put a D spring in all my Beretta 92s. For my needs CONUS the 26lb standard main spring is over sprung.

If I was in a third world country shooting third world 9mm ammo the stronger spring makes perfect sense.
