Thread: Leather for my P228

    Leather for my P228

I’m looking at acquiring a quality leather holster for my P228 to ride in and wanted some suggestions.

I’m debating between a Bruce Nelson “Professional” style holster with slight forward cant or something similar to a Milt Sparks VM2. I’m interested in having it personalized with my family crest and family motto on it.

I think this may be hard to come by.

Tucker does some stuff, but doesn't really offer either of those holster types. https://tuckergunleather.com/colors-and-stamping-1/

Purdy Gear does some engraving https://www.purdygear.com

Cotton's Custom Leather does engraving, but I don't know if they are taking orders http://www.tex45.com/OWB.htm

I've now owned or currently own holsters from about a dozen makers, including some of the all time greats (e.g. Milt Sparks and Del Fatti).

In my opinion, for leather - horsehide is probably the best there is and of the common horsehide makers -

Contact Jim at JR Customs. Great line of “standard” holsters, but truly custom/bespoke leather is his thing. And he’s good.

Ive got some of his stuff. Hes more of an old school guy but Id think Avenger style would be right up his alley.

I've got one of his High Rise Double Loop holsters for my 4" K frames. Excellent quality, but like most BN55-style holsters, not the best for concealment.

There's a story that goes along with it. I was deployed to Afghanistan when I ordered it and had him send it to me there so I could have something to remind me of what I had waiting when I got home. When it arrived, I found that he had included a few bite-sized Hershey bars like you get to hand out to kids on Hallowe'en. It was the first non-MRE chocolate I'd had in six months. I emailed him to let him know I'd gotten the holster and to thank him for the treats. About two weeks later I got a package from him - three 1-lb. Hershey bars with almonds! I was a popular guy with the folks in my unit for a short while.

FYI, the JRC holsters are made off using a legacy short extractor P229 and will NOT properly retain the long extractor P229 or P228.

I love my JRC CDA-II AIWB. IMO it is the best leather AIWB on the market and I wish I could get mine modified to accommodate my RMR equipped guns.
