Just like off duty soldiers are?
    Why should they?

Do you want to restrict off duty police officers or do you want the same (favorable) laws to include off duty soldiers?

If the question had been phrased, ‘should private citizens have the same ability to carry as LEOs within the same milieux,’ I think we might have seen much more agreement.
It does seem as though the thread's title/question was constructed in such a way as to create the most "us vs them" antagonism possible. Hard not to assume that was by design on the part of the OP. On the other hand, that antagonism is going to exist under the surface regardless until such time as equality exists, so I'm not sure it would have been avoidable even with the better thread title/question you suggested.
