The one I got is a plain cardboard box with contents scattered inside.
You can't even tell if it's new or used. Nothing sealed.
Shame on you S&W that you can't put a $5 case with a $400 gun!
Better than spending $2,000+ on a Les Baer and it coming in a cardboard box.

There is no such thing as a "nice plastic case with a foam insert". At best they're just a plastic case with a foam insert. Some people mistakenly store their guns in those plastic cases with foam inserts and the foam creates rust marks on the slide because they collect moisture. All my factory cases are in Sterilite tubs stashed in a closet; whether they're plastic or cardboard all they do is take up space.

Guns are fired at the factory. $400 is at the low end for a pistol. Worry about things that matter. Enjoy your new handgun.

The disappointment was due to my expectation after watching YouTube videos.
If they showed cardboard box, it would be fine.

At least, I could have used the case to and from range.
My range requires a case so that's the first thing to buy.
I don't want to throw gun in the bag without case.

Grip texture/stippling is not as bad as reviewers say...

BTW, I really thought the grip texture would be too abrasive as lot of reviewers are saying it's hard to hold but it doesn't feel that bad.
In fact, it's perfect for my hands.
Maybe some guys have too soft hands.

    Cleaning kit in the house

    Bought this Hoppes cleaning kit.
I was looking for 9mm only that was cheaper but all they had was this Hoppes essential kit NK2 made for multiple calibers.
I guess I have to buy guns with other calibers to use this kit fully.
I'm planning on cleaning it little bit and hit the range today.
