I'm seeing a theme here. I'll swap out for a 12lb spring and report back.

I broke my gun in with the supplied 11 lb spring in the gun (4 inch barrel). By the end of 1000 rounds with lubing at 250 round intervals, I could almost feel the slide chambering the round.. Decided there is a reason they say after the first 1000 to put in a heavier spring. almost at 2k without cleaning now, doing great.

I have large hands and on 9mm 1911s... I have to make sure my primary hand thumb is away from the slide..... as contact with the slide will stop it short of battery.

Also my DW Valkyrie Commander 9mm recoil spring felt too soft...so I uped it with no issues.

I tried a 12 pound spring in my Colt 9mm Commander and it was unreliable with 124gr HST. I went back to factory springs which I think is a 14 or 15lb spring and it's all gravy again. Some guns prefer different spring weights...could be related to hammer spring weights as well. Those can slow the slide considerably.

From the "Factory Spring Weights" sticky in the 1911 Manufacturers, Dan Wesson section of 1911forum.com
    All Wolff springs

    Full sized .45 18.5 lb
    Full sized 10mm 20.0 lb
    Full sized .40 S&W 16.0 lb
    Full sized 9mm 10.0 lb

    Commander .45 20.0 lb
    Commander 10mm 22.0 lb
    Commander 9mm 12.0 lb

These are all standard springs. No variable springs.

    Full sized mainsprings 18.5 lb

    Bobtail mainsprings 23 lb
So I'd say a 12.0 lb spring is a good place to start.

I'm going to try the 13lb Wilson Combat Flat Wire. Should one use the Wilson Guide rode also?

IIRC, you have to. In the product description I believe it states that the ID is smaller so you need their guide rod.

With all due respect - do not ride the slide w/ your thumb. I would complete the prescribed 500 round break-in shooting decent brass case factory ammo.

If it continues send it back to DW. Maybe the chamber needs to be opened up a little bit.

Or the feed ramp needs touched up or the extractor needs touched up, or the ejector, or the magazines should be different, or use the same magazines with certain ammo, or measure the magazine feed lips, change the mag springs and use a few different kinds of ammo, or just use different mag springs and followers.

Iam definitely laughing with you. I have spent some decent money and time measuring magazine feed lips and springs and AMMO C.O.A.L bring frustrsted when my 1911’s wouldn’t run....and those are .45 acp.

I hope it gets sorted out after the break in and runs like champ, a dirty gunked up champ.

I'd start by checking extractor tension, being that it is getting hung up on only on that last bit of slide travel.

I'd also imagine that going with a heavier recoil spring would make the issue worse, if this is a break in issue.

FWIW (because totally different gun), I had the exact same issue with a new 5-inch Walther PPQ. After much research on a Walther forum, and with ongoing range sessions, the problem slowly resolved itself. A firmer (non-limp wrist) grip initially helped, but eventually after about 500 rounds it settled in and the issue has not resurfaced.

If it were mine I'd just follow through with the recommended break-in procedure before experimenting with any hardware changes.
