    40 s&w pistol

I have been cruising armslist and have noticed some people state they will not accept 40 cal pistols as trades, Why? Is there something about the round that causes problems?

There is nothing "wrong" with the .40S&W. It's more likely the person simply has no desire for a pistol chambered for that cartridge.

The market has gone soft on the .40 S&W cartridge (guns and ammo) and it's becoming more and more common (in my neck of the woods anyway) for Dealers to refuse trades involving them. That's good news if you're a buyer obviously.

The path of least resistance will seldom get you where you need to be.

Police trade-in .40's are all over the place for dirt cheap. I've seen gen 4 Glock 22's for $300, M&P40's for $250, sig 226 and 229's for well under $500. Not long ago I even saw USP .40's for $450. The market is flooded with .40's and everyone is moving to 9mm. If you want a .40 you're in a really good spot right now.

I was speaking more about individuals, but that's a good point regarding dealers. And it's more likely what is going on.

I picked up a USP .40 FS awhile back for $343 after shipping and transfer.

That's likely because said individuals never bought into the 40 S&W craze/hype, have no ammo on hand for it, don't reload for it, and don't want to be bothered with it.

    I wouldn't take a 40 S&W anything in trade for those reasons

A local gun store owner said when he opened shop 9 years ago, for every one 40 S&W pistol he sold, he'd sell one 9mm. Now he says for every one 40 S&W he sells nine 9mms.

I keep eyeing the cheap H&K .40s on Gunbroker. I figure it would be good to have one .40 in the safe...

I'm convinced there is no better .40.
