    The PF wine thread

So, now it's a thing. Discuss.

I'll be happy to admit to being much more on the hillbilly end of the scale then the connoisseur (thanks, spell check) end of the scale. I have no taste for dry wines, nor even semi-dry wines.

I prefer sweet, semi-sweet, and fruit wines. I remember my grandfather making dandelion wine when I was a youngster. (Side note, my grandmother also battered and fried the yellow heads, making something similar to a hush-puppy, and fried the greens in bacon fat).

One that my wife and I really like is the strawberry wine from Tennessee Valley Winery: https://www.tennesseevalleywinery.com/fruit-wines A lot of strawberry wines are, in fact, grape wine with strawberry flavoring. I find these to be a bit too much like cough syrup. The TVW offering is all strawberry, and tastes like it.

    Key Lime wine: https://floridawine.com/products/key-limen

Even a cheap sangria usually goes over well in my household.

Finally, to prove my heathen nature, one of our favorite wines in Paris was the "Very Pamp" grapefruit rose: https://www.france-export-fv.com/epa...ucts/L09207917

This thread should be renamed the P-F Wine Mixer. That is all.

I saw they had some cans of wine at Publix the other day. Now I can buy a couple cans if just for dinner, or a whole box if I need something to take to a party.

I should probably stay in the bourbon thread.

The wife & I had some at a local wine tasting (also known as the ability to drink a bunch of little cups of wine for free to decide which bottle we wanted to bring home http://www.showcaseofcitrus.com/) I found it to be pretty horrible, which was surprising because I love key limes and key lime pie. The blackberry wine they have on the "related products" wasn't so bad, I think we brought some of that home with us.

We're not label collectors, like what we like and usually ask our friend that owns the wine shop to help us pick something in the cab, zin, petite sirah, côtes du rhône, malbec, range. Occasionally a white sauvignon, chenin etc.

Some recent labels that I remember enjoying were from Dry Creek, Hayes, and Rock Wall. There are others but as I say, we usually get great recommendations and enjoy trying different wines in the above categories.

Otherwise it's ale / beer, or single malt / bourbon.

So I need a good Malbec, $10-$15 or so.

We bought one somewhere or other, pretty sure it was this one:

Very nice; not as robust as a Cab but a bit more complex than a Merlot. Very drinkable.

Any other suggestions? This one seems hard to find locally to me...

By the way, if someone wants a good drinkable Merlot, we have had bottle after bottle of this WA state wine, it is consistently good value for money; very drinkable:

One more: We like a nice chilled Chardonnay; this is our current go-to:

We like good Italian and French wines. Barolo, Brunello, French Pino, etc.

Fruity young “drinkable” reds, not so much. Rather have a beer.
