Bill Rapier highly recommended the Ratcheting Medical Tourniquet. He carries one daily and said it was soon to receive TCCC approval. Bill said the windlass on both the CAT-T & SOFT-T are known to break under stress.

FWIW, the RMT was specifically not recommended by Dr Peter Pons (designed the Stop The Bleed/BCon course endorsed by ACS, developed in partnership with DHS) because it does not provide true circumferential pressure due to its relatively inflexible plastic ratcheting teeth. This problem becomes especially evident if you try to apply it to a very thing extremity (forearm, esp. of a small woman/child).
The only CAT-T/SOFT-Ts with windlass breakage I've ever heard are with counterfeit products. The genuine products are the most vetted TQs on the market. No idea why he believes otherwise.
If he said that, then he's thoroughly confused.
As for receiving CoTCCC endorsement......well....it hasn't gotten that in the last ~15-some years of its existence.....

RATs aren't great because the relatively thin diameter cord they use is much more likely to cause crushing tissue injury over the site of TQ application than the wide, flat nylon bands used by the CAT-T, SOFT-T, and similar. See here for more.
I'm good with my choice because it's based on the recommendation of folks that have experience with HUNDREDS satisfactory uses on the battlefield.

Upon further thought it may have been Rapier’s assistant instructor who made the comment about the ratcheting TQ receiving approval soon. Bill was carrying a ratcheting TQ and he definitely recommend it. His AI was a Philly LE and a Sayoc Kali practitioner like Rapier and they both appeared to be on the same page regarding the TQ. Both carried one. I also figure if a trainer has someone helping out during a class it isn’t going to be someone going off the reservation spouting stuff the primary trainer doesn’t agree with. We were were told of broken windless on both the CAT-T (Gen 7) and SOFT-T. I was quite surprised and questioned the breaking of a Metal windless on the SOFT-T but was told yes they have broken.
Slight drift. I was securing a load in my pickup using ratchet straps and it occurred to me that in a pinch, you could probably improvise a tourniquet using those things.
