Thread: "Seismic Ammo" 185gr 9mm

  1. #11
The only real use I can see for something like this is some kind of uber-deep penetrator round for carrying a 9mm in bear country. But since it's obviously some kind of hollow point projectile, that's clearly not what they have in mind.

When a major law enforcement agency decides it's a good idea, I'll start paying attention.
I was into 10mm Auto before it sold out and went mainstream, but these days I'm here for the revolver and epidemiology information.

    Snake oil or interesting development?

The strange looking cases are a combination of anodized aluminium and stainless steel, presumably due to the pressure?
I imagine that's why @Tamara said they'll be checking further into it...

I was loading 150gr Bayou SWCs for about a year and IIRC they were about 950fps. The OAL was as long as would still function in a 92F, and there wasn't room for anything else in the case without compressing powder.

I'm skeptical of these 185s because: SHOT Show, physics, and anything with hyperbole in the name is usually bullshit.

But for 9mm in bear country, we have the Underwood Extreme Penetrator (vaguely porn-y sounding name) based on GJM's testing.

Pretty much my take on it as well.

    Very much this.

    As well as the following:

I've shot a bit of SNS 160gr when they first came out.

Some of the PCC crowd dug it, they could run some sort of light spring, IDK/IDGAF. In the 92 they fed well, shot soft (tho, not noticeably softer than 147's that made power factor) and were horribly inaccurate.

I think they ironed out some of the sizing/shape of the 160, but IDK/IDGAF...

The stuff mentioned in the article, tho? I'm just going to say: At least Tam gets a free trip to shoot other people's ammo. Good for her!

For this group, this isn't good marketing. Most people aren't this group.

I'm curious as to what will come out of the closer looks.

I'm also very skeptical, but always interested in gel results.

I would also say it's not exactly confidence-inspiring on the safety aspect of the cartridge (from a pressure standpoint) when they only demo it in PCCs and the most durable pistol made....

Where we at a year and a half later?

I see this from Costa for whatever it is worth. Still wondering how it might work through auto glass or sheet metal. Maybe I need to buy a couple boxes and try it for myself.
