As long as this storm brings lots of moisture. The local ski area has received 11" of snow in the last 48 hours and is expected to receive another 12-24 before it's over. We could use another 200 inches before the season is over.
Oh not particularly - I love the sporadic 60F winter days here in CO.

Right now looking out the window from lab we have a white-out blizzard hitting us. Not going anywhere til visibility improves some...

Not looking any better here, it's now looking like we'll get some decent lake effect. Starting this evening we'll get 6" or so overnight, followed by another 6-10" Saturday into Sunday evening. Then we'll get a nice "break" of 18-degree highs and single-digit lows, followed by warming and slushy snow/rain mix from Tuesday into Wednesday.

Worse the bulk of the snowfall is likely going to be heavy wet snow, since it's right around freezing. Followed by a slurry mixture of rain/snow on top of it later? I'm thinking it's time an impromptu 10-day vacay to...anywhere not here.

Looking at 9 to 12 inches here. Child's play.

Well, I might not make it through next week, folks.

The even bigger story however will be the dangerously cold and potentially life threatening wind chills that will be common across the northern half of the state Friday morning. Temperatures in the -5 to -15 degree range coupled with still fairly strong and gusty west winds will lead to extremely cold wind chill values across the area.
Windchills in the -30s - Friday morning.

Moving into next week we could see low temperatures in the -30s with windchills even lower. Record snow fall to go along with those temps.

If I don't make it, know I went down fighting. Expect the headline to read, "When Cold Snaps Snap: Man sets neighborhood gas station on fire to "get warm"".

    I don't miss Chicago weather.

My mind still remembers the winter of 81-82 where I was out snowmobiling for some stupid teenage reason in -25 temps. The snowmobile quit so I opened the hood and wiggled the fuel filter to see if it had fuel in it. The attached fuel line shattered from being so cold. Lucky a friend was there to tow me home.

Wind chill this am reached -20 F at times. The dog said "nope" before I did.

Went to the state capital for a pro-gun rights lobbying day.
Had to walk 3 blocks in the 7F/-10F wind chill...
Hard to be a smiling citizen lobbyist when you're that cold.
Proud to be among *a lot* of determined, principled Minnesotans, though.

Hey R-Rob! Lake effect snow & wind sucks, but at least it cuts down on the crazy youth incidents like you had a few weeks back.
