Thread: New Colt King Cobra

Love my 3" Colt King Cobra.

    Accurate and perfectly balanced.

Hoping Colt makes a light weight 2" Cobra with an aluminum frame.

After Saturday's range trip, my King Cobra is over 600 reliable rounds fired. It would be more than that if I could consistently get primers, trying to pace for now.

This trip was a mix of 38 Short Colt, of several variations it did best with 125gr JHP over Titegroup at basically 9mm load levels; and light to moderate 357 loads, 125gr JHP and BE-86 which shot the best groups of the day.

The way I'd describe the experience, the 3-inch KC shot as well as a 4.2-inch GP100 MC and a 4-inch model 19-5 on the same day and with the same loads, out to 25 yds; anything beyond about 7 yds requires a little more concentration than with the larger, longer sight radius, adjustable sight guns which is not much of a surprise I guess. That's the tradeoff for a more compact and six to 10 oz lighter package.

No pictures this time, because mine looks exactly the same as every other stock, unmodified out of the box KC. That's one of the attractions, the fact that it runs out of the box. Maybe next trip I'll figure out a way to photograph it it in some interesting setting....

I had been eyeing these since they first came out. I have always found the 3" .357 an attractive concept. The positive reports were mostly encouraging.

One thing that sorta held me back was the lack of the specific types of holsters I prefer for revolvers being available. Earlier this week I got a note from Wes at Privateer leather that he now has the polymer mold gun for making the 3" KC holsters, and Ryan Grizzle is making them as well.

So hunting I went and found a "blem" that indeed had both the described silver trigger tags at a LGS yesterday, $899 out the door with tax, they also are selling their remaining stock of them on GB for $849 although there may be yet better deals on line for these.

I hope it is as stout as a Ruger. I intend to put some number of full power rounds down range.

Once again you people are the worst sort of enablers and it costs me money to hang around this place.

I can't quite make out the maker's stamp on that holster. Do you mind telling me where it is from?

Looking at threefiveseven’s lovely wood grips, I need a nice pair for my Cobra. The only sets I’ve found are from Thailand.

Correct. Also have the same holster for my Smith 649.

    Very happy with both.

Those are Hogue grips. Not bad for $80

Is your King Cobra a post 2017 model? Will those grips fit the KC’s I’ve recently bought. Thanks!
