    Bobbed Hammers vs Apex Hammers

I am currently carrying a S&W 386 in a Maxpidition "Good to Go" bag. The hammer tends to catch a little when drawing the gun and I am considering either having the hammer spur chopped off or installing one of the Apex hammers. They want a chunk of change for those things so I was wondering if anyone reading this has any experience with their DAO hammers in carry revolvers?

Also, any problems or complications with chopping the spur off MIM hammers?

Apparently Apex isn't selling many of those hammers. (lol) Kind of answers part of my question...without answering.

MIM hammers are about $40 to replace, versus $160 for the Apex unit. Most people just chop the MIM. brianenos forums seems to have the most material around that kind of activity, from what I've seen.

However the Apex hammer comes highly recommended on brianenos.

Good chance it would need gunsmith fitting.

The Apex part also includes the spring kit and enhanced firing pin.

On J frames with hammers having smaller mass and shorter distance in their travel arc, some smiths when trimming the spur would leave a very small hump or oval area on the back of the hammer. Supposedly, the technique preserved a minimum mass amount. If a mim part is less dense, then using the same procedure would be advisable. I see no reason for not cutting the spur.
