Are the mag rounds staggered like the G43? If not, I wonder how the new single stack mags are going to do and how glock improved reliability vs. the neutered 10 rounders that sucked.
When Glock started making guns in the US, those guns were not bound by the import restrictions of the 1968 GCA. So they could go to the smooth trigger, etc. There is nothing to prevent someone from replacing a grooved trigger with a smooth one after it has been imported, assuming one is available.
Per the video done by TFB, with the exception of the finish, forward cocking serrations and bull nose, the G43 and G43x slides are identical and interchangeable.
So summing up...
the 43X is a 1.5-stack G43 that holds 10 rounds, and the 48 is a 43X with a 1/2" longer barrel?
A friend in the business tells me that some of the distributors have had these (43X & 48) in the warehouse since before Christmas, and the earliest allowed ship date to dealers is 1/17/19. There will be examples in the wild outside of the official eval people well before the end of January.
The email that Glock sent out this morning leads to these two pages https://us.glock.com/Products/g48_silver_slide and https://us.glock.com/Products/g43x_silver_slide.
Based on them, yes, that is indeed the case.

Too bad Glock didn't take the opportunity to introduce a slimline universal rail standard to give light manufacturers a way to attach QD slimline lights.
Interestingly, the addresses for the 48 and 43x contains "silver_slide" in it
https://us.glock.com/Products/g48_silver_slide
https://us.glock.com/Products/g43x_silver_slide
While addresses for other glocks (eg. G45, G43, et al)
do not.

Could mean room on their site for regular black versions down the road. Or, it could just be a way for their web people to keep guys like me from replacing "43" with "48" in the url to poach a look earlier. Or it could be nothing.
But the 43x and 48 are the only ones with the ss addition in the addy. I guess it could mean that we might see other 2-tone finish line extensions, eg. G17, down the road as well. Or it could mean
I’m spending too much time on the internet.
