    Wonder if for the OP's intended purpose the M63 might be a good choice. I understand in this case the ease of use of the 39oz 617 is not what the doctor ordered, and the 11.7oz 317 would certainly force proper technique, but at 24.8oz the 63 is not exactly going to be a piece of cake.

    I’ve decided to go with the 3” LCRx in .22 LR, ultimately the price won out over the 317. It is lighter than the 63 (light weight has been stressed by a number of experienced folks in this thread and others) and has adjustable sights (which I wanted) and will hopefully be better quality than the other choice in my price range, the 4” Charter Arms Pathfinder.
