Discovered the secret to Walmart ammo buying

So last night I'm feeling like I need to replenish the practice ammo stocks a bit and hit my local walmart for some of the federal value packs (19.97 per 100). All the value packs were out. So I start thinking to myself, hey I live in a fairly politically conservative area, our walmart has reloading equipment and a big bubba looking sporting goods manager, there has to be a correlation here. So today at work I duck out at lunch and head to the walmart super-center near my employer (very non-conservative urban area). I walk in past the hemp beanie hat wearing skinny jeans crowd in the parking lot, and sure enough they are packed to the gills with value packs. I blew the dust off the boxes and I had to hold myself back from doing a mass buyout. To add to the humor of the situation, the lady in sporting goods who looked like a very nice environmental activist opened up the cabinet and didn't even want to touch the ammo like it was poison or something. She just let me grab what I needed and escorted me over to electronics to pay for them. Thanks urban Walmart, you are my new favorite.

They tell me at my Wal-Mart they sell out as fast as they get it. They have people that call in every couple of days just to check and see if it’s in. I went by there two days ago and they are out of everything. so now any time I go its go to sporting goods whether I need it or not

Try going to your nearest super-center adjacent to a large urban area that dislikes guns! Good call on checking each time you visit. 1 or 2 extra boxes per trip adds up over time.

living in a big city they all get hammered. every one has the same idea; when you see you better get it. when I see it I buy all they have because it won't be there next time

I avoid WM as best I can, and with the deals to be had on Internet purchased ammo, I don't really see the point of going even for ammo. Especially "bulk" ammo purchases at Wal Mart.

Makes me thankful that I made the investment in my own manufacturing plant years ago.

In general Wal Mart makes me imbarrased to be a member of the human race, but they do have cheap ammo so i deal with it. The secret is sneaking in the door to the auto repair center and then it's only about 50' strait to the ammo counter.

WalMart's ammo prices aren't anything special. $10/box of Federal Champion 9mm? Yawn. Their el cheapo birdshot is a decent deal, but they charge $5/5 of Super X #00 when my local law enforcement store sold me a box of 5 Federal LE Flight Control #00 for $3. Their rifle ammunition isn't special either, their Federal bulk pack .223 is $10 more than I commonly see it advertised online (tax offsets S/H costs...), their 7.62x39 is a LOT more expensive than anything you'd get online (mil surp), etc. Even my local range has ammunition priced competitively with WalMart for the most part.

WalMart is really good at making you think you got a bargain, when you didn't.

I do both (online and local WM). For me it's pretty much a convenience thing. I fill up my car right next to one, so it makes for a convenient "on my way" place to check. In this case I was simply curious if this particular location near work had better stock than my home location. True enough, the urban fancy walmart was well stocked. It was pretty funny.
