    LASD and LAPD M&P Question

I have a couple of questions about the LA County agencies using the M&P.

    1. I take it LASD is authorized to the Crimson Trace Laser sight on their M&P? Safariland made a 6380 holster that accommodates a laser grip.

    2. I was at a training class last week and the person putting on the class said LAPD will be going to M&P soon. I was wounding if there was any truth to this rumor?

    Thanks

I'm told the next LAPD recruit class is getting M&P 9s. The Glocks have issues with extensive use of lead free ammo.

Can you expound on what those issues are and why the lead free ammo might be causing them?

Breechface pitting is one of the common issues with CF ammo.

Thanks Chuck. I've never used lead free ammunition. What causes the erosion, different primer compounds?

Yes. Whatever the primer compound is in the lead free it's more corrosive to some guns that the standard primers.

Interesting. I am guessing the M&P doesn't have this issue. If it does is not that bad.

My agency recently had to replace a BUNCH of G22 strikers due to becoming rounded off/shortened due to the use of LF ammo (caused by the LF primers). The agency requires the use of LF ammo for all training. Some guns got so bad they would not reliably set off primers (either with LF or service ammo).
