My 66 is just the opposite of bac's. I bought mine over 40 years ago, and shot it so much with Magnum ammo early on, I wore it out. Had it completely overhauled by S&W many years ago. The only original parts are frame, side plate and rear sight. Still use it for yearly LEOSA qualification. Good little guns IMHO.
My 66-1. I bought this at the Savannah, GA, gun show in 2007 or 2008. The dealer got this gun from a GA Sheriffs Office with a batch of Gen 2 Glock 22 trade ins. The gun had the thin sheet metal simmunitions conversion rings in the forward portion of the cylinder. It apparently survived its agency’s original conversion to G22s via its role as a simmunition training gun. The dealer thought it had somehow been converted to .38 special only and had consequently priced it low ata time when revolver PD trades had dried up and prices were starting to climb.
These are the sims conversion rings. They go in the forward portion of the chambers.

That Guy, I really have no idea how many rounds. It took about 6 years. I had a very competent local gunsmith tune it up twice over a period of time due to timing/carry up issues, shaving lead, jacket material, etc., end shake, and I don't recall what all. The third time I took it to him, he examined the gun and said he could do no more, and it needed to go back to S&W. I sent it to S&W for a complete overhaul. It came back with everything replaced other than the original frame and side plate. S&W also returned all the used original parts. I'd seen a couple K-Frame .357s split the forcing cone at the 6 o'clock position, but my 66 didn't suffer that particular issue.
While S&W had it, I asked that they install a target hammer and trigger. They did that, but said they didn't have stainless hammers and triggers available, so they installed the regular case hardened type. I had Robbie Barrkman put a matte electroless nickel finish on those parts to better match the rest of the gun.
