Ruger to Release a Brand New 8-Shot Revolver

This evening I was talking to couple of industry guys who said Ruger is developing a totally new 8-shot centerfire revolver, tentatively named the "Super GP". The first caliber to be released will be .38/.357.

They said they've handled prototypes and the gun will be officially unveiled at the SHOT show.

How long have N frames held 8 rounds?

I'm excited to see what they come up with!

Personally I'm hoping for something really different, not just a bigger GP100. Ideas:

    1. 8 shot LCR: add a rail and could mimic the SW TRR8 for half the price

    2. re-engineered Rhino/Mateba (yeah... that's a long shot)

Ruger forum guys say it’s based on the super redhawk, with a slimmed down frame. Could be pretty cool.

A 6 shot LCR or SP -101 would be great.

    I'm not sure what I would take between a SP-101 6 shot and a Kimber K6.

They've already made an eight round Redhawk, so what's the big deal?

If they're doing it on a Super Redhawk frame as mentioned above, and they include the integrated scope mounts, it could be a great varmint hunting or silhouette gun.

FIFY. I'm just cynical about marketing announcements.

A Super Redhawk frame without the frame snout and scope mounts would be great, because it would have the GP100 type lock work which smooths out better than the Redhawk lockwork. I hope they’re copying Hamilton Bowen’s GP-44 concept.

I can understand the sentiment, but I hate the Redhawk, and the design has some issues.

If they're going to upsize the GP100, without going full Super Redhawk (better than the regular Redhawk, but still not quite ideal) I'd certainly be interested.
