It's a cheap watch and doesn't particularly do anything better than any others, it's also very cheap feeling.
I ended up getting a Seiko to replace it and have had it for several years, no issue at all - http://amzn.to/1SEJnEn

VM’s seiko rec is a good one as was the Citizen recommended in the first few posts. Those brands absolutely dominate the space in the sub $150 area in terms quality/value.
Is that seiko watch listed available with a black face? Tried searching around but couldn’t find a comparable model with stainless and a black face.
Thanks!

That's the closest but it's also a black case.
I still have the blue dial version, it's definitely blue but subdued enough that you will only notice it in direct light situations.
I will probably do a review soon-ish of this Seiko, and I can tell you now I am very happy with it. Have had it for about 4 or so years and never changed the battery and it keeps perfect time.

As a teen, my first job was at a local jewelry store. I worked there as a senior in high school and first year local college. This was back in the very early 70's. I was instantly hooked on watches when the owner/watch repair man wore a Bulova Accutron tuning fork watch. The watch had no dial, so one could see the movement. The movement was totally electronic, which was during the space race with the Soviet Union. This watched hummed when put to the ear. I was truly captivated by the Accutron watch.
Now back to the question at hand. My current is a Casio G-Shock solar power and atomic time keeping. No battery to change and time is automatically updated by the atomic clock broadcast signal in Ft. Collins, CO.
However I recently bought a Citizen Promaster Diver watch. Around $140.00 on Amazon. It is solar powered and very accurate. It wears well on the wrist. Not too big or too small....just right for me.
