Inaugural NM IDPA Blue Line Pro Am

I thought you all would like to know abut this match. If this thread is better in the competition sub, please move.

This weekend we held the the Inaugural NM IDPA Blue Line Pro Am. This was the first ever sanctioned Pro Am IDPA match. Everyone shot for score as individuals, but were also able to make a two man team of one experienced shooter and one newer shooter. We assigned a point system to the rankings. Masters were 5 points, Experts 4, Sharpshooters 3, Marksman 2, and Novice 1. Your team could not be more than 7 points. So Masters were paired with Marksman, etc. It added a nice component to the match and allowed experience an skill to be on display for those moving up. Lots of people were paired with people they did not know, so it also made for a great community component as well.

The important part of this match was what it was for. This match was a benefit match. After the match was paid for all of the proceeds went to two New Mexico based charities. These charities were Ten-82 for the LEO side and Horses for Heroes on the Military side. The sponsors of the match were great, and bore most of the cost. This allowed us to give away over $3000 to Ten-82 and $3000 to Horses for Heroes.

These two charities are closely ran, and were heavily vetted by the Match Staff. 100% of the money that was raised will go to doing good work. Ten-82 helps officers in need, any time they fall onto hardship. They help officers by paying from anything from cancer treatment to bills when they fall on hard times. Horses for Heroes is a skill restructuring program. They help soldiers repurpose their skill sets by teaching them how to ranch in a team environment.

Officers and competitors came from as far away as Seattle and Pennsylvania to shoot with us and support the causes. There was a heavy showing from Texas and Colorado as well. We were blessed to have the Rio Rancho PD present the colors for the opening. After that the shooting started. As some of you know IDPA usually has a scenario that sets up the stage. We skipped the scenarios and in place had a short story that was in honor of an officers above and beyond the call of duty, or in memory of an officer that made the ultimate sacrifice.

Thank you to all of you that dawn a uniform. This match was for you, just thought you should know there are a lot of people who have your back and they spent their time, money, and vacation to show it.

We will be holding this match again next year.
