The Khashoggi issue is not the issue to die on a cross for. There is zero need for our involvement. A lot of people getting bent over thinking this guy was a normal reporter for WAPO.
Although the bone saw deal highlights the brutality of the middle east even in 2018.
The defense contract stuff is a distracting irrelevancy. Meaning the whole issue of supporting SA with top-notch arms is a whole other can of worms entirely.

Any other president would have issued a strong statement supporting freedom of the press worldwide, and decrying violence towards dissident journalists. Trump did not.
Any other president would have also blithely continued to take Saudi Arabia's arms money and oil. Donald Trump is happily, and openly, doing that.
Many of Donald Trump's policies are legitimately (and uniquely) terrible but his unwillingness to hold Saudi Arabia's feet to the fire over their shit humanitarian record isn't unusual at all. The West Wing had a Very Special Episode about this back in '02; it was a well-known problem then.
