I'll add that the book Black Hawk Down is excellent. It is, in my opinion, even better than the movie.
There’s a book called The Battle Of Mogadishu which collects several short autobiographical accounts of participants in the battle that didn’t get a lot of attention in some of the other media. I highly recommend it.

The book may well be the finest piece of non-fiction I've ever read. The documentary Paul Howe did is also very worthwhile, for those interested.

Woah, woah, woah... was listening to one of the above documentaries: I didn't know that Osama bin Laden and Al-Quaeda were helping Adid in Somalia.
I remember reading the original "Blackhawk Down" series that first appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer. I printed out the articles and passed it around the military school I was assigned to at the time - more than one fellow officer commented that he couldn't put it down. We passed copies to our students. The book followed later.
