Suspect shot dead as police, armed citizens open fire after attack outside gun range

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Armed citizens came to the aid of a Metro police officer outside a gun range on Wednesday, shooting at a suspect who attacked the officer with a screwdriver.

The suspect was killed outside the Range 702 shooting range in the 5900 block of Dean Martin Drive, just south of Russell Road.

Metro didn’t say how many times the suspect was shot, or if he was killed by a citizen or by a Metro officer who also opened fire.

But police thanked the citizens for the help.

“I would just like to take a moment to remind everyone … the dangers of this job of being a police officer. And we would also like to thank good citizens that step and help us in our time of need,” Metro Capt. Jamie Prosser said.

The suspect has not been identified.

The officer was transported to UMC, where she was treated for her injuries. She was released later in the day.

Metro officers had gathered at University Medical Center early Wednesday afternoon after the incident.

Police were called to the scene just before noon after reports that a man entered the gun range and started to cause a disturbance inside. The man was asked to leave.

Authorities said several people followed the man outside.

When officers arrived, they located the suspect and told him to step in front of their patrol vehicle. The man refused to comply. Then he pulled out a screwdriver and “violently” attacked one of the officers.

This is the first officer-involved shooting of 2021 in Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department jurisdiction. Per Metro policy, the identity of the officers involved will be released after 48 hours.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with any information about this incident is urged to contact the Metro’s Force Investigation Team at 702-828-8452. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 702-385-5555, or at www.crimestoppersofnv.com.

Good to hear. Hope they are all well.

My former partner in Miami became the RAC in Deming for Customs back before the reorganization with Homeland Security. Been a while since I've been to that part of the state, (and Las Cruces). Lordsburg was most recent.
There's nothing civil about this war.

One of the injured is a buddy of mine. Expected to make a full recovery. The other two will recover as well, but have some surgeries ahead.

Police: Man killed while filming prank robbery video for YouTube in Old Hickory

OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (WKRN) – One person was killed in a shooting in Old Hickory near the Hermitage line Friday night, according to a release from Metro police.

It happened around 9:20 p.m. in the 4300 block of Old Hickory Boulevard at a building with several businesses.

Police say 20-year-old Timothy Wilks was shot and killed in the parking lot of Urban Air on Old Hickory Boulevard.

Detectives were told that Wilks and a friend were participating in a “prank” robbery as part of a YouTube video and approached a group of people, including the shooter, with butcher knives.

The shooter says he was unaware of the prank and shot Wilks in defense of himself and others.

No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.

I’m surprised this is the first time I’ve read about somebody getting killed doing stupid pranks. Although, I have to wonder if prank is just a creative excuse his friends told police.

Married couple shot by neighbor over long running feud in Pennsylvania. Neighbor got pissed off that the married couple was clearing snow, walking across the street and putting it on his property.

He comes out and shoots both of them to slide-lock, goes back inside and retrieves an AR to finish off both of them.
