Deputies and Clayton County police tracked Parrish down to a house in Conley on Jewel Terrance Road, where Hill said children were also inside.

SWAT was called to the scene, but the children were out safely before they arrived. Shortly after that, Parrish came out and surrendered. He was taken to the hospital where he's recovering from his injuries before he is taken to jail.

Hill said he was "so impressed with Chilton" for "defending those who could not defend themselves" that he made him an honorary deputy and inducted him into The Sheriff's Posse Hall of Fame.

"They got him thanks to our bread man," said employee Helene Berkowitz.

Florida gun range employee’s leg amputated after accidental shooting, felon arrested

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – A convicted felon is in trouble with the law again after what deputies are calling an accidental shooting at an indoor gun range that ended with an employee having to have his leg amputated.

The incident happened on Nov. 24 at Shooters World on East Fletcher Avenue. According to Hillsborough County deputies, a woman was shooting at the range when a shell casing went down her shirt. When she lowered the firearm, deputies say she accidentally turned the muzzle toward a range safety instructor who was working with her.

The instructor was shot in the right upper thigh and was taken to Tampa General Hospital. The sheriff’s office says he ultimately had to have his leg amputated due to the injury.

Sheriff Chad Chronister says 42-year-old Eric Anthony Hall rented the Glock 9mm semi-automatic pistol that he was using, along with the woman who shot the instructor. According to Chronister, Hall has three prior felony convictions and is not allowed to be in possession of gun, even if it’s rented.

Wow. I shoot there, a lot. I was there about a week before this happened. It's probably the largest, most-well equipped range and store in Tampa, with an extensive rental collection. I wonder if they will change their rental policy (you have to have two persons to rent a firearm) at all. Locally another range I shoot at requires you to be a member in order to rent a gun.

The two person rule is normally an anti-suicide measure. The membership requirement may be a mix of anti-suicide measure since most people with indoor range memberships would own a gun of their own and attempt to screen out prohibited persons from renting guns at the range.

As for the original story, everyone thinks some Hoochie mama out on the range is funny until she gets brass down her shirt and someone loses a leg.

New York trooper kills man who struck him in the head with hatchet, state police say

A New York state trooper fatally shot a man with mental health issues after the man struck him in the head with a hatchet, according to state police.

Trooper Ryan Mousaw responded to the residence of Daniel Condon, 55, in Arietta, N.Y., after a call about a person experiencing mental health issues. Condon was allegedly threatening people with a machete on Tuesday night after accusing them of stealing his money.

As Mousaw began to ask Condon questions, he noticed that the man started showing signs of instability. The trooper told Condon he would have to detain him and take him to a hospital, at which point Condon began to resist the officer.

Mousaw tried to deploy his Taser to stop Condon but was unsuccessful. Then Mousaw felt something hit the back of his head. He stepped back and saw Condon with the hatchet. Fearing for his life, Mousaw pulled out his gun and fatally shot at Condon, according to the Times Union.

Mousaw fire seven shots, Troop G Maj. Robert Patnaude said Wednesday. With blood gushing out of his head, Mousaw immediately called for help and tried to administer first aid and revive Condon with a defibrillator, police said.

It took help 15 minutes to arrive in Arietta, a rural area in Hamilton County.

Mousaw was taken to a local hospital and was treated for the head wound and a sprained arm and wrist.

“He needed several stitches in the head after the hatchet hitting him. He’s home right now. We don’t expect him back very soon, but he’s going to be OK,” Patnaude said.

Patnaude said the hatchet incident in a remote Adirondack town demonstrated the kind of life-and-death decision a police officer must make.
