But it tends to work out well for the victims. More times than not, charging, attacking, or otherwise engaging the attacker reduces the number of victims significantly.

Another old idiot can't keep track of his gun. Also, teach your kids never to touch anything looks like a gun. However, impulse control at that age is lacking.

Reason #1 to get your kids shooting as early as they can handle it..... Nerf can have "4 Rules" too. Airsoft for sure. Tragic.

Portland High School Student armed with gun stopped by Football Coach/security guard (and former Oregon Duck) -- nice work.

Parents and students reported Coach Keanon Lowe, one of Oregon’s most prominent high school and college football players of the past decade, took the armed male student to the ground.

SAPD: 3 gunmen at large after killing 1, wounding 2 on East Side
Gunmen also opened fired at 3 SAPD officers,

SAN ANTONIO - A man is dead and two others were wounded in what police believe was a gang-related shooting on the city's East Side.

Around 6 p.m. Tuesday, San Antonio police Chief William McManus said two detectives and an officer were near the 500 block of Blaine Street to follow up on an overnight shooting.

During that time, and not more than 45 yards from where the officers were standing, McManus said three men in a black Ford Edge SUV pulled up at the corner of Hays and Lockhart streets and opened fire on the three victims.

McManus said that, after the gunmen shot the victims, they began firing at the officers before speeding off northbound on Hays Street.

Despite being fired at, McManus said, one of the officers who was "within line of sight" chose not to fire back at the shooters because of the risk to innocent bystanders.

"As soon as the gun was pointed and fired, (the SUV) took off. The officer was not going to risk hitting an innocent bystander with any rounds that he might fire," McManus said. "That's how bold these three individuals are, to actually do it in broad daylight with police not 50 yards away."

The man who was found dead is believed to be in his late teens to his early 20s.

The two other victims, described as being "younger," were rushed to a local hospital, where one was listed in critical condition and the other is in unknown condition, McManus said.

McManus said that, in the past few days, officers have responded to at least four other shootings in the same area.

    Off topic rant:
Is it just me, or is the term "opened fire" overused in the media? I hear and read it all the time. Never does a gunman simply shoot, fire, gun-down, blast, target or even spray shots anymore. It's almost always "opened fire" or (excessively conjugated like "opened fired" above.) I hear the term so much, it i makes me believe that there is a coordinated effort to use that term rather than a simple but widespread lack of creativity by reporters.
