Woman called 911 to report burglary, then ambushed arriving officers, police say

BOERNE, Texas - A woman is facing two charges of attempted capital murder of a police officer after police say she called 911 twice early Friday morning, then shot at the officers who showed up.

Boerne police said Melissa Rowley, 45, called police just before 4 a.m. and said someone was trying to break in to her home at the Vista Apartments. Police got to the apartment complex, located at 125 Crosspoint, and found no evidence of someone attempting to break in.

Police left, but said Rowley called 911 three minutes later to say that someone was spraying something under her front door. Police said they went back to her apartment but did not observe anything that appeared to have been sprayed under her door.

The woman then told dispatchers that someone was at her window, but officers found no one there.

Dispatchers told Rowley that Officers Pablo Morales and Nicholas McWright were outside her apartment. Police said she told dispatchers that she couldn't hear their knocks and to knock harder.

When the officers complied, they said Rowley began firing her pistol. According to police, Rowley fired in the direction of one of the officers.

Man charged in Hawaii sailor’s shooting death

A man has been charged in the death of a Hawaii-based sailor who authorities say was fatally shot after he tried to enter someone else’s residence in April.

Chief Petty Officer John Ellsworth Hasselbrink was shot on April 15 by the resident of the Ewa Beach home in the middle of the night and died at the scene, police said.

Gregory A. Farr was charged with felony manslaughter last week for “recklessly” causing the death of the 41-year-old submariner, according to court records.

Farr was also charged with two counts of possession of an unregistered firearm, according to court records.

Navy officials said at the time that Hasselbrink had mistakenly tried to enter a residence other than his own.

KHON2, a local TV news affiliate, reported that the incident took place at about 3:15 am., and that the shooter initially told his wife to call 911 before grabbing his gun.

He yelled at the person to leave and then fired a single shot through the front door, striking Hasselbrink, according to the KHON2 report.

Two cable workers vs two robbers, and some highly different reactions from the workers. Something about the one’s helpless outlook versus his co-worker’s response to shoot the assholes really speaks volumes to me.

I think I’d rather take a shot to the face than go out groveling on my belly hoping for mercy from some criminal.

Texas man yelling ‘Jesus is coming’ while stabbing toddler is shot by neighbor trying to stop attack, cops say

A Texas man beat and stabbed his 1-year-old son to death in the courtyard of an apartment complex Sunday -- despite a valiant attempt to stop the brutal assault by a neighbor who heard screams and grabbed his gun, police said.

A neighbor near the Oak Forest Apartments in Lewisville fired three shots, one of which hit the father in the leg, and a nearby woman tossed a garbage can at the man in a desperate bid to end the assault, FOX4 Dallas reported.

But the daring intervention came too late and the 16-month-old child died at the hospital. The child, father and neighbors were not immediately identified.

A witness said the father yelled "Jesus is coming" during the 1 p.m. attack, and told anyone around the apartment complex to watch.
