Alberta sheriff accidentally shoots herself at northeast Edmonton gun range

An Alberta sheriff was rushed to hospital Sunday morning after she accidentally shot herself during a training exercise at a police gun range in northeast Edmonton. The shooting happened Sunday morning, at the Constable William Nixon Memorial Training Centre just off 129 Avenue and 9 Street NE. Edmonton police said at around 11:30 a.m., an accidental discharge happened during a sheriff training session. The woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries to her lower body. Officers shut down several northside roads while a police-escorted ambulance took the officer to the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Edmonton Police Service spokesperson Carolin Maran said the officer is reportedly part of a group of Alberta sheriffs who booked the EPS facility for training. No one else was injured during the training exercise. This is the second time an officer has accidentally shot themselves at the same gun range this year. In April, an off-duty Edmonton police officer accidentally shot himself in the leg while at weekend event. The officer was part of an EPS gun club, in which officers get together on days off to do target practice. That officer was injured in the upper leg, and his injuries were not life-threatening.

Officer wounds self during pursuit near San Diego marathon

SAN DIEGO – A San Diego police officer accidentally shot himself in the leg Sunday while pursuing a hit-and-run suspect who pointed a weapon at officers and was eventually arrested on the roof of a parking structure near the finish line of an annual marathon, authorities said.

Officers fired at the woman but missed after she brandished the weapon at the parking facility at the edge of a downtown plaza shared by City Hall, police Chief David Nisleit told reporters.

The suspect, identified by police as 58-year-old Mona Elease Williams, threw the weapon from the top of the structure to the street below before being taken into custody, Nisleit said. It was unclear what type of weapon it was, but investigators were looking into whether it was a pellet gun that resembles the real thing, the chief said.

She was booked on a charge of felony resisting arrest, police said. It was not immediately known if Williams had an attorney who could comment on her behalf.

Police said they initially suspected the woman might have been linked to a kidnapping investigation in Chula Vista, but later Sunday a department spokesman said the two incidents appeared to be unrelated.

We had something similar happen during a raid on a storefront on Calle Ocho in Miami. As a DEA agent and I ran for the door of the location, (which had mirrored tinted windows so we couldn't see in), we hear a gunshot.

I remember Pete asking me if that was a backfire and I said no, it was definitely a gunshot. But what I couldn't understand was where they might be shooting at us from as the door was closed and there was no broken glass.

We entered, put everyone down hard but found no evidence of a fired weapon. Back outside, on our perimeter, we learned that one of the (future DEA supervisors) had shot himself in the leg getting out of his vehicle. He didn't report it or say anything initially until we saw his leg wrapped in evidence tape with blood seeping down his leg.

(The hundreds of kilos of cocaine in this shipment was secreted within cans of crab meat imported from South America and being distributed from this location.)
There's nothing civil about this war.

Man accidentally shoots himself in the head
"Police said the man started playing around with a handgun while he was with a woman. The woman told him to stop, but the man told her not to worry because the gun was unloaded. At one point, he put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger."

Off duty officer gets into a road rage incident and they pull into a strip club parking lot. Officer exits the car, gets shot 6 times before retrieving his gun from his car. Returns fire hitting the suspect and his passenger. Everyone is expected to be OK last I saw, but there's juat a ton of bad decisions in this one.

Anyone who points a gun at their head, loaded or otherwise, I think might have some kind of suicidal tendencies.

Fair Park is not the best neighborhood. Will be interesting to find out the motivations for this murderous stupidity.
Will also be interesting to know how many that returned fire are licensed to carry. Probably will never know..
