Police aren’t releasing the name of the 51-year-old man from Sandown who was accidentally shot late Saturday afternoon at the Deer Hill Wildlife Management Area on Pine Road in Brentwood. CPR was done on the victim until a police officer arrived and then took over until medics arrived. The victim was later pronounced dead. WMUR-TV reports target shooting is not allowed in the area. Pheasant hunter kills grizzly. Be interesting to see whether the hunter had a slug or buckshot as the last couple rounds, or whether it was all birdshot. Sounds like he wasn't restricted to three rounds, like we are on upland game in WA. (Federal law requires three rounds for waterfowl/migratory -- I think some states vary on upland).

An Abbotsford family, a police department and a community are in mourning after Const. John Davidson, a 24-year veteran of the Abbotsford Police Department was killed during a shootout at an Abbotsford strip mall Monday. The shooting started innocuously enough with a call to police at 11:35 a.m. about a possible stolen vehicle spotted in the parking lot in the 3200-block Mount Lehman Road. Less than 20 minutes after the first call to police, several 911 calls poured in reporting shots fired. A male suspect had started shooting at the caller and others with a shotgun, police said. “There was an exchange of gunfire,” said Abbotsford Police Chief Bob Rich, and one officer was taken to hospital with “very serious injuries.” He was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after arrival. The suspect, a man in his 60s from Alberta, fled in the vehicle and was pursued by police to Mount Lehman Road and Fraser Highway, where he was apprehended by cops. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over the investigation; the Independent Investigations Office has also been deployed.
