Jackson said Strickland's contention that he was in grave danger isn't believable, pointing out that Stickland reholstered his gun and stepped off the street and onto the sidewalk to give an interview in front of a TV camera just steps away from the scene of the confrontation.

Welp, that's a sobering emphasis of one of the best rules of concealed carry. Retreat when (safely) possible, and if you ain't about to shoot, don't draw.

Authorities ID man shot by Hernando deputies after stabbing dog, threatening resident

HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA)— Two Hernando Sheriff’s deputies are on paid administrative leave Monday, after a deputy involved shooting that left one person dead.
Investigators said Taylor Hodge, 26, was running around the neighborhood, barefoot, with weapons.

Witnesses say Hodge appeared erratic and disoriented. “The person was obviously in crisis, obviously delusional and obviously very dangerous,” said Hernando County Sheriff, Al Neinhuis.

Around 10 a.m., a resident called 911 and told dispatch a man threatened him with a knife and broke down his fence.

Terry Greene, also dialed the sheriff’s office. She said Hodge burst through her back door, with a knife and tire iron.

“He just come busting in the door, come over the back fence, come through our house with a big knife,” said Greene. “I was screaming, ‘who are you? What do you want? Why are you in my home?”

Luckily, Greene’s two dogs jumped in and attacked him. Bubba Jay, a two-year old pit bull got a grip on the suspect, when he entered the back yard.

“He was chewing this guy’s feet and legs through my house and he was hitting him in the head with a tire iron,” said Greene. “Bubba Jay is my hero today that saved my granddaughter and our life.”

Bubba Jay received a small knick on his nose.

Greene’s basset hound, Levi, attacked the man moments later. Levi was stabbed by Hodge.

Authorities arrived on scene about 15 minutes later and encountered the knife-wielding suspect. Deputies asked Hodge to drop the knife, but he refused. Hodge was tased ineffectively and shots were fired shortly after.
Levi the basset hound was rushed to Three Oaks Veterinary Services in Brooksville for care. Greene has started a GoFundMe account, called Levi’s Recovery, to help cover medical costs.

Convenience store owner in Yakima stops armed robbers...

Salha was working at his store around 9 p.m. Sunday when he saw the two men on his surveillance camera putting bandanas over their faces in the parking lot. When they came in the store, they brandished handguns and demanded money, but Salha said he had already grabbed his .40-caliber Smith & Wesson pistol and refused to give them any money.

I often wonder why convenience stores don't have emergency buttons behind the counter that lock the doors somehow. probably some kind of code violation or something.

Pretty crazy. One of the very few times I have read about a person wearing body armor to kill an ex and their lover rather than the active killer/terrorist. I'm curious about the second article mentioning one round pierced the vest. I wonder if it was an edge or between the side panels hit and not actually penetrated a panel. I wonder what they were shooting at him with. It sounds like they did a lot more than most people in their position. They were alert enough to get to guns and engage him him with hits on target and had guns in the first place. It is a shame they didn't prevail.
