Car burglars in my town tend to be armed and fairly often shoot at folks, but having two dudes mag dump at a wounded guy who wasn’t even armed to keep him behind cover is novel.

Army veteran shot while confronting suspected thieves in Birmingham’s Forest Park

    https://www.al.com/news/birmingham/2...rest-park.html

An Army veteran was shot Sunday morning when he tried to stop what he believes was a car burglary in progress outside his Forest Park home.

It was just after 4:10 a.m. when 32-year-old Ethan Lann walked out of his home at The Windsor Apartments to go to his Jeep to go to work.

Lann, who said the neighborhood has been plagued with vehicle break-ins for more than a year, saw a group of possible thieves casing out cars. When he saw what was happening, he yelled, “Hey.”

Within seconds, he was taking gunfire.

“The very first pop I heard, I felt my shin get hit with something,’’ Lann said.

Lann dropped to the ground and took cover behind a tree. He said eight more shots were fired at him while he was taking cover.

“The two gunmen continued to fire on him even though he was wounded and taking cover,’’ neighbor Janis La Velle wrote in a GoFundMe launched for Lann.

“They didn’t want to injure. Their aim was to kill someone for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

“That is just a horrific story and has no place in our community,’’ La Velle wrote.

Lann was able to make his way to a stairwell and got behind a brick wall. He said the group of suspected thieves left a short time later.

    Sad news out of Australia:
Two police officers among six slain in Queensland siege

Two young officers who were among six people killed in an execution-style ambush and siege at a rural Queensland property "did not stand a chance", the police commissioner says.
Queensland Police said Constable Matthew Arnold and Constable Rachel McCrow were shot dead "in the line of duty" at Wieambilla in the Western Downs.
Four police officers were initially shot at while visiting the property, about 300km west of Brisbane, in relation to a reported missing person on Monday afternoon.
The initial scene that confronted the four police officers was likened to an ambush, with some reports suggesting the offenders were heavily armed and possibly wearing camouflage.
Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers said the two officers killed had been "executed" and it was "a miracle" the other two had survived.
"This was a pure execution," he said.
Prayers for the families of those officers.

ROME (AP) — A man opened fire Sunday during a condominium board meeting in a coffee shop in northern Rome, killing three people and injuring others, authorities and witnesses said.
Gee, we had our condo meeting a couple of months ago. We had pizza, wings, beer and soft drinks. The big issues were someone who waters his lawn too much and them lousy kids from the neighborhood on our lawns. If the membership had to subdue someone, we would have to strike you down with our canes.

I wonder if Canada will next ban condo board meetings, since they have already banned most everything else.

Without any element of sarcasm, I could see them banning members from approaching a governing body (why not expand it to all governing bodies) without an appointment and security in place. At least in most of Ontario, that would fly.

Ex-San Marcos police officer shot, killed after pulling gun on officers responding to disturbance, officials say
Kyle Lobo, 36, resigned in October following allegations of family assault

    https://www.ksat.com/news/local/2022...officials-say/

A former San Marcos police officer was shot and killed overnight after he allegedly pulled a gun on police.
Kyle Lobo, 36, who resigned in October amid allegations that he repeatedly assaulted family members, was shot after San Marcos police responded to a report of a disturbance at 12:15 a.m. Sunday, according to city officials.

The 911 caller stated that Lobo assaulted someone at The Grand at Stonecreek apartments. He had been drinking and was armed with a gun, police said in a news release.

Lobo was encountered outside when police arrived and he had a child in his arms. He then handed the child to the 911 caller and pulled out a gun, officials said.

Officers shot Lobo and he was taken to Ascension Seton Hays, where he died.

The news release states that Texas Rangers and San Marcos police are investigating the shooting. The officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave.

Lobo was free on bond after he was charged with felony charges of injury to a child and continuous family violence against a family member, records with the Hays County Jail show.

According to arrest warrants obtained by KSAT Investigates, Lobo’s wife told officers that he assaulted her on Oct. 3 at their home in Buda.

She said Lobo assaulted her five to six other times since the start of 2022, including a time when he head-butted her during a Fourth of July cookout.

Arrest warrants also state that a boy, who was 11 years old at the time, told police that Lobo had punched him twice in the stomach and then kicked him in the back.

Man in custody after shooting at officer, SAPD says

SAN ANTONIO – One man is in custody after firing several shots at a San Antonio police officer Saturday night, said SAPD.

SAPD responded to the 6100 block of Rose Valley at 11 p.m. for a family disturbance with a gun.
Upon arrival, an officer approached the house on foot and attempted to contact the suspect, a 31-year-old man.
The man fired several shots at the officer with a handgun and fled the scene behind the house into a dark wooded area.
Officers and a helicopter assisted in the search for the suspect.

The man was located and taken into custody.

SAPD said neither the officer nor the suspect was injured.
