Hays County deputies shoot, kill knife-wielding man
Man armed with two knives tried to kick in front door of home, sheriff’s officials say

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Two Hays County deputies shot and killed a knife-wielding man Friday.

According to the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call around 8 a.m. for a man armed with two knives trying to kick in the front door of a home in the 100 block of Hunter Creek Cove in Buda. The homeowners identified the man as their daughter’s ex-boyfriend.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they told the man several times to drop the knives, but he refused, a news release said.
Moments later, two deputies shot the man, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both deputies will be placed on administrative leave.

The Texas Rangers will assist with the investigation.

Employee, robber wounded in exchange of gunfire inside North Side cannabis shop, police say
Incident occurred around 3:20 a.m. in 500 block of West Hildebrand Avenue

AN ANTONIO – Gunfire exchanged between an employee and an attempted robber inside a cannabis shop has sent two people to the hospital early Saturday morning, according to San Antonio police.

The shooting happened around 3:20 a.m. at the Purple Dragon, a cannabis store in the 500 block of West Hildebrand Avenue, not far from San Pedro Avenue and Interstate 10.

According to police, the suspect, a man in his 20s, had entered the store and immediately began firing towards the employee. That’s when, police say, the employee also pulled out a firearm and began shooting back.

Police said officers arrived to find the employee on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. The attempted robber was also found in the store in the restroom, also with multiple gunshots.

The 23-year-old employee of the store was taken to an area hospital in what police say was “stable condition”. The robber was also taken to a hospital by ambulance in critical condition.

SAPD said both guns were recovered at the scene and the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
    No other injuries were reported.

More San Antonio apocalypse porn for me. Used to drive down Hilderbrand for many years on the way to work. Not at that time though.

    So here's today from NYS

liverpool, N.Y. -- An off-duty Camillus officer fired a gun in an Onondaga Community College classroom Thursday during an gun safety class, police said.

On Jan. 11, the officer was teaching a course on handgun safety at OCC at Liverpool at 8015 Oswego Road when the instructor accidentally discharged the weapon, Roger Mirabito, OCC’s spokesperson, confirmed Monday.

Camillus Police Chief Michael Schreyer said no one was injured when the handgun fired.

Nothing really new. In Oregon, a colleague was taken the concealed course back in the 90's and the instructor let a 45 ACP off over the tops of the class. In TX, at a fancy new modern range, one instructor shot another.

I may have missed news of it, but Im very surprised the idiots doing the killer clown scare pranks havent been shot. They are going to maximum scare value.
So apparently the shooter had USCCA carry insurance and called them immediately after the shooting (something USCCA competitors learned from court filings because the prosecution tried unsuccessfully to introduce the existence of the call at trial). Yet the shooter (food delivery driver Alan Colie) still ended up being represented by a public defender. This caused quite a stink online as various ccw influencers discovered uscca could deny coverage for anything they deem an illegal act and claw back any money they paid up to that point.

After getting hammered online - especially from their competition Attorneys on Retainer - USCCA eventually released a statement saying they had not "dropped" the Colie and said they were providing a lawyer for his appeals. USCCA did not say why they did not provide a lawyer for his original trial.

Colie was found not guilty by reason of self defense for the most serious charges but still convicted of unlawful discharge of a firearm. He served 8 months in jail.

USCCA's official statement acknowledging Colie is a member and that uscca is paying for his appeal (but neglecting to mention why he had a public defender at trial):

We need to be able to hold DAs to a "reasonable DA" standard...

To use lethal force to apprehend a fleeing felon, the felon must have committed a crime that involved the infliction/threatened infliction of serious physical harm; or using a deadly weapon to make their escape; the officers must also reasonably believe there is no other way to make the arrest and, or, that if not arrested the subject will continue to be threat.

First question to be determined: was the felony a violent felony?

Second: was the vehicle used in a manner which made it a deadly weapon used to escape?

Third: would the dead guy have been a continued threat if allowed to escape?

I haven't watched the video, so unaware of anything beyond the article, just pointing out the elements the DA would have considered.

I'm kind of wondering why she didn't submit it to the Grand Jury - well, probably a dumb question - politics.

watch the video. One trooper was unbuckling the perp to affect an arrest when the perp decided to drive off, dragging the trooper. Another trooper one the passenger side was also at risk of being dragged and he is the one who opened fire.

The DA isn't wrong that opening fire wasn't likely to immediately stop the suspect from driving away (and didn't in this case either), but the shooting was still legally justified.

I was just pointing out the criteria, not saying yeah or nay.

The whole expert witness thing is being overblown IMO. Yeah, at some point she said they would get an expert opinion, but the reality is that attorneys 'shop' for experts that say whatever fits their agenda. Watch, both sides will have an expert IF the case goes to trial.
