Texas homeowner fatally shoots man with medical condition who wandered onto porch in middle of night
The homeowner fired multiple shots as he retreated into the home, police said

A Texas homeowner shot and killed a 21-year-old man Monday during an early morning encounter on his front porch.

The shooting occurred in the Fort Worth suburb of Saginaw around 4 a.m. in the 600 block of Babbling Brook Drive, the Saginaw Police Department said. Officers were called to the scene after reports of gunshots.

When they arrived, officers found a dead man lying face down on the porch from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. His mother identified him to Fox affiliate KDFW-TV as Andrew Russell.

The homeowner told police he was awakened minutes earlier by someone banging on his front door. The homeowner asked Russell to leave, police said.

Russell began to leave but turned around and "rushed the resident," police said. The homeowner fired multiple shots as he retreated into his home, police said. No charges have been filed.

Fox News has reached out to the Saginaw Police Department.

Russell's mother, Cynthia Williams, told the news outlet her son suffered from epilepsy and frequent seizures for years and likely wandered out of his home and needed help. He had a history of leaving the home after seizures, she said.

I know nothing beyond what is in this article but Rodger was a legitimate gunsmith known for decades in the business. He had done work for me in the past.

I am withholding judgement until more information starts filtering out, but struggling to imagine that this had to happen this way.
This is a thread where I built a boat I designed and which I very occasionally update with accounts of using it, which is really fun as long as I'm not driving over logs and blowing up the outboard.

Word around the campfire is that the deceased 70 year-old man was gunsmith Rodger Kotanko, proprietor of RK Custom Gunsmithing.

Mark Donnell of Simcoe, a life-long friend of Kotanko’s, said he watched paramedics wheel Kotanko out of the home on a stretcher. Donnell said paramedics were performing CPR as they did so. A friend of the Kotanko family, Donnell said he has it from “a reliable source” that Kotanko was shot once in the neck and three times in the chest.

Not a shooting incident, but eight dead, and hundreds injured, for being in a three-S type of environment.

Charleston gun store owner accidentally shoots, kills employee

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — A gun store owner accidentally shot and killed an employee earlier this week, Berkeley County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies arrived at Coastal Firearms on Tuesday to find Stefan Mrgan, 36, with a gunshot wound to the "lower face." He died shortly after officers made it to the scene.

Coastal Firearms owner Jon Whitley told officers he accidentally shot Mrgan, after mistaking his personal handgun for a bb gun. The handgun was taken by officers following the incident.

A witness told Deputies he saw the two men having a normal conversation, then he heard a firearm discharged. He said he saw Mrgan fall to the ground, bleeding.

Police investigated the incident and based on their preliminary information, determined the man was involved in a robbery happening at the residence. One resident then pulled out a gun and shot the suspect, say police.

This seems like something from a Walter Hill movie:

A man suspected of getting into a shootout with an undercover federal agent at a Spokane motel last week had recently been released from federal prison after serving nearly two years for firearms charges.

    .....

According to court documents, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives planned an undercover operation involving Holmes on Nov. 5. An undercover ATF agent agreed to meet Holmes in the late afternoon at a Motel 6 west of downtown Spokane.

It isn’t yet clear what happened during the meeting, but Holmes and the undercover ATF agent ended up trading gunshots. Holmes was shot in the chest, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Caitlin Baunsgard. Baunsgard said Holmes allegedly shot the undercover ATF agent, who has since been released from the hospital.

Remind me not to stay at the Motel 6 in Spokane.

Seriously though, glad the ATF was working this case and came out, presumably, okay.
