Sentencing starts for 2 Hamilton paramedics guilty in death of 19-year-old

The criminal charges against two paramedics — who have not been named — come eight months after the 19-year-old Al-Hasnawi was fatally shot on a Sanford Avenue North sidewalk Dec. 2, 2017 after trying to stop an older man from being harassed. Witnesses, including Al-Hasnawi’s family members, alleged paramedics did not believe he had been shot, including laughing and telling him to get up. Witnesses said the bullet wound was small and some initially speculated it was a BB gun, not a handgun. Hamilton police previously said records showed it took 38 minutes from the time paramedics arrived on scene to when he arrived at St. Joseph’s hospital. The hospital said in its statement of defence that Al-Hasnawi was already without vital signs when he arrived in hospital, and that despite efforts to resuscitate him, the Al-Hasnawi was pronounced dead 19 minutes later.

A two-day sentencing hearing began Monday for two paramedics found guilty for their part in the 2017 death of 19-year-old Yosif Al-Hasnawi of Hamilton. Steven Snively, 55, and Christopher Marchant, 32, were found guilty in June by an Ontario Superior Court judge of failing to provide the necessaries of life to Al-Hasnawi. In the case involving Snively and Marchant, Justice Harrison Arrell ruled there was a "marked departure" from how a properly trained paramedic would have responded. The paramedics spent 23 minutes on scene that night; 17 of those minutes were in the back of the ambulance. Arrell said the wait was "unjustified" and it was foreseeable the paramedics were risking Al-Hasnawi's life.

Two killed in Boise mall shooting

Security guard and patron (or clerk) killed in shooting, three injured include one LEO (with minor injuries it appears). The "suspect" was captured and is in serious condition. We really needed this in the TV (Treasure Valley). I don't believe many folks carry even though this is a permitless carry state. In fact in the three years I've lived in Idaho I've seen one person carrying. Sure, concealed is concealed, but in a gun friendly state I would expect to have observed some occurrence. Was in a gun store today and I spoke with one of the employees about the shooting for a few minutes; he was going to revisit his current "why bother" approach to EDC. The right gun/holster combination and you shouldn't give EDC a second thought.
