No charges for Edmonton police officer who fired service pistol at another officer

    https://edmontonjournal.com/news/loc...-officer-asirt

A city police officer will not face charges after firing his service pistol at another officer at an Edmonton Police Service (EPS) training centre in 2019.

On June 7, 2019, members of the city police tactics training unit and firearms training unit were finishing up work at the EPS Constable William Nixon Memorial Training Centre, 12950 9 St. About 10 officers were in a “bullpen” area unwinding, with some of them bouncing lasers from SIRT laser training pistols off mirrors and onto each other, ASIRT said in a Monday news release.

The SIRT laser pistol is an imitation firearm paired with a vest and technology used for training. While it resembles a pistol, it does not have a functioning barrel or discharge ammunition. The SIRT pistol’s upper portion and trigger are bright red, compared to the Glock service pistol issued to officers which has an all matte black body.

Snow-shoveling dispute in Pennsylvania ends with 3 dead: report

Authorities in Pennsylvania responded to a shooting on Monday that resulted in three deaths—including a husband and wife, a report said.

WNEP reported that authorities in Plains, which is south of Scranton, said there was an argument between neighbors at about 9 a.m. over shoveling. Neighbors told the station that they heard about nine gunshots.

Jeffery Spaide, 47, shot his two neighbors, James and Lisa Goy, police said. Their bodies were found outside in the snow. They leave behind a 15-year-old son with autism. The teen will taken care of by his grandparents.

Spaide was also found dead and it is believed to be a murder-suicide, the report said.

"The bodies of the two victims of the gunfire from the shooter were both outside. One is the middle of the street; one is between two parked cars. That is a husband and wife. There is the person believed to be the victim the suicide victim who is the aggressor and shooter is in one of their residences, his own residence," Sam Sanguedolce, the Luzerne County First Assistant district attorney, told the station.

This is in my local news today. If it sounds like something you've all heard before, it is: "Attorneys are calling for.....fill in the shooting of your choice here." Unfortunately, it's becoming routine to have a press conference with Benjamin Crump before there has been any official determinations. They never contacted the DA's office - just held a press conference because, hey, they had to establish the proper narrative, after all. They've even borrowed the Ferguson phrase: "he got bullets (sic) with his hands up." The huge difference in this case is the dead person was Asian.

Special Forces pulls new pistols from service after soldier injured in misfire

A member of Canada's elite special forces counterterrorism unit was wounded last fall when a newly-purchased handgun, with a history of misfires and injuries in the U.S., inexplicably went off during a training exercise at an Ottawa-area range, CBC News has learned. The soldier, belonging to Joint Task Force 2 (JTF-2), was hit in the leg and received a flesh wound as a result of the accident, which took place Nov. 5, 2020 on a firing range at Dwyer Hill, the unit's principal base. Consequently, the military has withdrawn all the brand new SIG Sauer P320s from service and members of the unit will — for the time being — rely on their old model SIG Sauer P226 pistols.
