@fatdog looks like we were both very wrong and that Cheaha story was much more hills have eyes than a drug deal gone bad. This one sucks.

I’ll also note that being held at gunpoint in the middle of the woods is not the time to tell someone to “get on the ground” if you can get the drop on them.

The whole story is really worth a read.

‘He is my hero’: Florida student died protecting heartbroken girlfriend in robbery near Cheaha State Park

Instead, it ended in a horrific nightmare when Simjee was fatally shot during a robbery attempt on a National Forest Service Road. Investigators say the robbery and subsequent killing were carried by a woman was with a group of other people “living off the grid” in a camp in the national forest.....

“He had his gun in his waistband the whole time because he said it was suspicious and this is how people get robbed,’’ Paulus said.

“My whole body went numb, but I knew I would at least be OK,’’ she said. “I was terrified, but I knew at any point Adam was going to pull his gun out.”

“He always made sure that I knew that I was protected and taken care of,’’ she said.

Hider asked them for their banking information and cell phone passwords.

“When she (the suspect) dropped her guard for a second, and lowered her gun for a second, he pulled out his gun and told her to get on the ground,’’ Paulus said. “She started messing with her gun and it was jamming but they shot at each other.”......She was shot three times and he was shot once. Her femur was shattered so she couldn’t get away,’’ she said.

Sheriff Jim Studdard on Tuesday while they were searching for the second suspect - Pinkins - they were led to a large group of tents that had been sent up in the forest. He described it as a base camp, which was located about a half mile from the crime scene.

As authorities were approaching the base camp, they observed Pinkins standing near the tents. As officers were ordering Pinkins to the ground, a 5-year-old child ran from the woods holding a loaded shotgun.

While in College I had two car loads of Confederate Hammer Skins* roll up to the isolated Wildlife Management Range where I was shooting by myself once. I split without bothering to collect my targets or throw away trash. Members of that group, but not these guys, who were a bit older, occasionally showed up at local Punk shows, so I knew who they were (of course the giant swastika tats would have been a dead giveaway to anybody that it was probably time to leave).

What a horror story. Like I sad, MUC is 24/7/365 with no safe spaces on this planet.

At which point a criminal tries to order you to do anything at gunpoint there should be no quarter. All Cooper's Principals have to kick in immediately.

Imagine having to shoot a woman and her feral child in the woods because she was using him for overwatch during a robbery and then explaining that to the police. Or getting greased by a 7 or 8 y.o. kid for that matter.

I know that’s not what happened here, but it sure seems within the realm of possibility after reading that story.

The shootout Wednesday, Aug. 17, at Wildhorse Resort & Casino stemmed from a robbery attempt, and the suspect and a bystander suffered bullet wounds during an exchange of gunfire.

The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation in an update at about 5:45 p.m. reported the Umatilla Tribal Police Department at 1:04 p.m. responded to a report of a robbery in action at Wildhorse.

"Law enforcement from multiple agencies dispatched to the scene where they located the suspected gunman attempting to exit the resort," according to the update.

The suspect and police exchange gunfire, and police shot the suspect. Police then took him into custody.

But during the shootout, a bystander also was shot.

I don't imagine there was a lot of planning that went into this robbery attempt.

Indeed. The story is a couple months old, but proves your point quite well.

A 10-year-old girl who shot and killed a woman her mother was fighting with at an Orlando apartment complex has been charged with murder, authorities announced Tuesday.

The girl — whom the Miami Herald is not naming because of her age — was taken into custody Tuesday on a second degree murder charge and is being held at the Juvenile Justice Center.

Lakrisha S. Isaac, the girl’s mother, was arrested after the May 30 shooting and was charged with manslaughter by culpable negligence, child neglect, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and aggravated assault with a firearm. The 31-year-old remained in jail as of Tuesday.

On May 30, Orlando police were called to Jernigan Gardens Apartments in Orlando following reports of a shooting. According to Isaac’s arrest report, officers found a woman with a gunshot wound to her head.

The day after the shooting, police identified the woman who was fatally shot as Lashun Rodgers, 41. Police said Isaac was fighting with Rodgers and handed her daughter her purse — which had a gun. The daughter subsequently opened fire on Rodgers, according to authorities.

A witness told police that Isaac threw the first punch at Rodgers and the two started fighting, according to Isaac’s arrest report. He tried to break up the fight, but as he turned around he saw the girl holding the gun and heard the shots. He said the girl yelled “she shouldn’t have hit my momma,” an officer wrote in the report.

Other witnesses described a similar scene.

Isaac, who is now being represented by the public defender’s office, refused to speak with officers after the shooting.

The girl was initially taken into custody by the Florida Department of Children and Families.

    Carjacker and LVPD RDS

There was a carjacking there, the suspect drove head-on into a K-9 unit, but what caught my attention was the RDS on one of the cop's gun.

If we have to march off into the next world, let us walk there on the bodies of our enemies.

I guess I’ll have to keep waiting for one of these chases to end with the carjacker getting shot in the face when he approaches someone’s vehicle. Or, dude in the Escalade could have done the purposeful compliance thing, stepped behind the B pillar when he got out and given that dude the Lincoln at Ford’s theater experience if he’d been carrying.

ETA: this is also a good example of why barrier penetration is important for civilians too.
