Pretty awful. An old man thinks an Uber driver (a 61 year old heavy woman) is part of plot to scam him. So he confronts her and basically just shoots her repeatedly with no reason - and as she flees. If you see the picture and video, it's pretty bad.
What do I know but I'd bet he has diminished cognitive capacity. He's shooting some kind of single action revolver. Probably a remnant of his youth or bought to 'defend' himself. For some reason, I think the gun used is indicative in some way of someone way out of any reasonable idea of self-defense. Not that it would be better if he opened up with a Staccato. Just looks like a underwear gun gone bad. But this is just speculation.

By that metric most of my LTC class had 'diminished cognitive capacity'.
The mind reels at the number of morons who had an absolutely looney tunes grasp of what a justifiable use of force looks like. I think Michael Cargill spent 90% of that class basically playing youtube videos of incidents that weren't justifiable and just leaving people gobsmacked that the "defender" went to prison. I'm not naive enough to think it got through to most of them.
This guy would have been right at home. If there were a 4 Rules of bad 'defensive' shootings I kinda feel like #1 would be "shoot at fleeing, unarmed people because you think they might have maybe committed a misdemeanor or something." JFC this is the Arbery murder all over again.
An inordinate number of otherwise intelligent people believe that getting pissed off enough is grounds for a justified shoot, and if it ain't... well, that's liberal commie bullshit.
"I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted and I won't be laid a hand on..." Add in that their definition of "Trespassing" includes cops, meter readers, school children, delivery drivers and any random stranger who breaks the plane of their property line; or that cutting them off in traffic constitutes Attempted Murder...
The Castle Doctrine has aided in that. On the local Nextdoor, a locked and loaded guy was waiting for the next car prowl. He left his car unlocked - surprise. Now he's ready for them! Tell him that it's a bad idea - WHY, we have a castle doctrine.
Should take one day out of High School and run the kids through the reality of what the laws actually mean.

While the shooting is unjustified the shooter may not be as diminished as you think.
An incarcerated relative of the old man was actually trying to scam him and the scammer was able to request the Uber driver go to the old man’s house to pick up the money via Uber’s “pick up a package” service.
So there was actually a plot to scam him, it’s just that the Uber driver was an unwitting participant.
This is just another example of why contraband cell phones in jails and prisons are a problem. I think it’s likely the scammer will be charged with felony murder for setting the whole thing in motion.
I don't think I explained myself well with regard to what I meant to. In this particular case we have a number of net denizens and even an instructor or two claiming that if you shoot at them they run. If you hit them, they really run and never return fire. This instant proves that them wrong. Don't listen to people like them.
The guy was shot twice with a .357 Magnum or a .38 Special fired from a .357 Magnum and the guy still shot the home defender several times before he died of his wounds.

District attorney says Memphis police officer may have been killed by friendly fire
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A 17-year-old suspect charged in the fatal shooting of a Memphis police officer has not been accused of first-degree murder because information obtained by the district attorney's office shows the officer was killed by friendly fire, officials said.
In a statement, the office of Shelby County's top prosecutor said the 17-year-old has been charged with 13 counts including attempted first-degree murder and assault against a first responder in the death of Officer Joseph McKinney on April 12.
McKinney and an 18-year-old man, identified as Jaylen Lobley, were killed in a shootout that developed as officers investigated a suspicious vehicle. The 17-year-old suspect was wounded and remains in the hospital. Another Memphis police officer was injured and a third officer was grazed and treated at the scene.
The DA's office did not identify the 17-year-old suspect in statements released Wednesday about the charges, which carry up a maximum of 400 years in prison. The statements did not provide details about friendly fire aspect of the shooting.
“We have not proceeded with a murder charge at this time because current information indicates that Officer McKinney was killed by friendly fire,” one of the statements said. “Although current information indicates friendly fire, we believe the 17-year-old’s reprehensible actions are still the real cause of Officer McKinney’s death.”
The Memphis Police Department on Thursday referred questions to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, which is looking into the shooting.
“We continue to mourn the death of Officer Joseph McKinney, as we learn this new information,” police chief Cerelyn “CJ” Davis said in a statement.
The TBI declined comment on the DA’s statements about friendly fire.
Lobley was arrested last month in a stolen vehicle with an illegally modified semiautomatic weapon that converted it to what Davis described as a “fully automatic machine gun.”
District Attorney Steve Mulroy said a Shelby County Judicial Commissioner made the decision to release Lobley on his own recognizance — with conditions including reporting and curfew — and did so despite prosecutors strongly arguing against it, citing the defendant’s danger to the community.

Texas investigating Guard member after border shooting incident
Texas officials are investigating a shooting at the U.S.-Mexico border near El Paso that involved a National Guard soldier assigned to Operation Lone Star, the Texas-led border security mission.
“Early on the afternoon of 14 April, a National Guard service member assigned to Operation Lone Star discharged a weapon in a border-related incident,” Texas Military Department officials told Army Times in an email statement. “The incident is under investigation. More information will be made available as the investigation progresses.”
Operation Lone Star is a border security mission launched by Gov. Greg Abbott in 2021 and run by the Texas Military Department and Texas Department of Public Safety that also uses Texas Army National Guard soldiers. At least 14 states with Republican governors have committed their Guard troops to support the operation in Texas.
The website NewsNation first reported the incident Monday after the outlet obtained a U.S. Border Patrol bulletin.
The bulletin, shown during the NewsNation video report, notes that at about 1:10 p.m. on April 14, a Border Patrol agent was notified by Army personnel that “a migrant was seen stabbing another migrant on the Mexico side of the U.S. border wall in the El Paso Sector near the Ysleta Station.
“The subject who was shot fled back into Mexico,” according to the bulletin.
The Texas Department of Safety contained the scene and two wounded individuals were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the bulletin. The news outlet reported that the soldier who fired at the migrant was with the Indiana National Guard.
“The Indiana National Guard is aware of the incident that happened Sunday, April 14,” Indiana National Guard officials told Army Times in an email statement. “We support and care for our soldiers and airmen supporting Operation Lone Star.”
Indiana Guard officials deferred any further comment about the incident to the Texas Military Department.
Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb announced the deployment of 50 Indiana National Guard soldiers to support Operation Lone Star in February. Their 10-month mission began earlier this month, Indiana Guard officials confirmed.
Between October 2020 and October 2023, 300 Indiana Guardsmen have served in federal missions at the border.
Officials did not provide unit details or specifics of Indiana Guard soldiers’ duties in the current mission.
In August 2023, a Texas National Guard member fired across the border and hit a man along the Rio Grande near El Paso.
The Washington Post reported at the time that the Texas Guard soldier fired after “three men on the Mexican side of the border started attacking a group of migrants with a knife as the migrants attempted to cross the river.”
