Suspect in custody I the murder of HCSO Deputy Goforth. Suspect approached the deputy from behind as he pumped gas into his cruiser. Suspect fired multiple shots at close range to the back of the deputies head. Once the deputy fell mortally wounded, the suspect stood over him and continued to fire.
Multiple eye witnesses saw the murder, and got a description of getaway vehicle and partial plate. Suspect found at his mother's house (about 1/4 mile from murder scene), and the getaway truck in the driveway. Two handguns found at mom's house.
Mom gave an interview that her baby "would never hurt anyone and never left the house last night"....despite witnesses watching him do it.
Suspect has not been charged, and is held as a "person of interest" while charging documents are prepared.
Darren was a 10 year veteran on the Harris County (Houston TX) Sheriff's Office. He leaves behind a wife and two children. Rest in peace Deputy Goforth.

For misdemeanors and felonies, all police officers in all jurisdictions in NYS have Statewide authority.
