Suburban mayor’s security team fires shots at armed robbers near Lincoln Park Apple Store

The security team for the mayor of south suburban Harvey intervened in an armed robbery and fired shots at the offenders Wednesday afternoon near the corner of North Avenue and Halsted Street, according to law enforcement sources.

Just before 2 p.m., four masked men stepped out of a black Jeep SRT and forced an 86-year-old man onto the ground at a CTA bus stop on the southeast corner of the busy intersection, right across from the Apple Store.

As the robbery unfolded, security officers assigned to protect Harvey Mayor Christopher Clark stepped in and one security officer opened fire toward the robbers, police said. No injuries were reported, but a bullet shattered the back window of the crew’s Jeep, which was last seen heading north on Halsted Street.

Well, this isn't the way to do it. Don't know the whys and wherefores on this. However, I do recall a class with John Holschen who pointed out that people sometimes get someone at gun point (independent of reason as this one is a cluster) and instead of maintaining distance or backing away - tend to approach to yell more at the opponent. Probably to obtain dominance.

    Doesn't always work out.

I really wish that they stopped calling criminals who get shot whilst committing crimes "victims".
If we have to march off into the next world, let us walk there on the bodies of our enemies.

Firearms instructor accidentally shoots dead fellow officer

BERLIN (AP) — Authorities in Austria said Thursday that a police firearms instructor is being investigated for accidentally shooting dead a fellow officer during a training exercise.

Prosecutors in the southern city of Graz said the 39-year-old instructor had handed practice weapons to the officers, but forgotten that he was still carrying his own service firearm.

Intending to show the group that one them was standing in a dangerous position, the instructor drew his gun and shot the 27-year-old officer in the back at close range, wounding him fatally.
Christian Kroschl, a spokesman for the prosecutors office, said there was no doubt the incident Wednesday had been an accident.

The instructor is now being investigated on suspicion of grossly negligent killing, he said.

Do we know more about the incident? It almost looked like the doer was trying to grab the camera system. The news story I found seems to show a different shooter (different clothing.) I’m curious if they have found the dirtbag.

The video shows the suspect ordering Singh to the floor. He complied, sitting on the floor. The suspect can then be seen jumping over the counter.

"(The suspect) then walked up behind Mr. Singh and, at point blank range, executed him," Kloac said.

According to the detective, the video shows the suspect standing over Singh's body to retrieve the spent shell casing. He then looked at the security camera, ripped out what he thought was the DVD recorder box and fled the store, the detective said.
Shooter was on probation for burglary. What surprises me is that he approached officers and was detained without incident. And he was at the dollar general across the street prior to this robbery, but apparently didn't cause any problems there. I don't understand what set him off - was he that mad the clerk didn't get on his stomach? Was he mad the clerk didn't give that other stack of money right away? Or was he going to execute him no matter what?

I wonder why anyone would ever want to target this poor innocent man. The ghetto, like Pepperidge Farms remembers.

Hendrix twice been arrested for murder – in 2007 and 2015 – and both times the cases against him were dismissed.

In that latter case, Hendrix said, the victim was a friend of his, but they always seemed to be “bumping heads.”

The victim had shot at him before, and Hendrix warned him not to do it again or he would fight back, which Hendrix said he did.

Prosecutors did not move forward with the criminal charges.

Hendrix was, however, convicted of two counts of attempted murder for shooting two men on Feb. 8, 2007.
I did enjoy this quote from his mother in the article.

I told him if he was ever killed out there doing something he wasn’t supposed to be doing, I was going to cremate him the next day,’’ she said. “I was that mom that called the police when he wasn’t in the right, or telling the police, ‘I’ll help you find him.’ I don’t play.”
