Florida man charged with murder of active-duty Coast Guard woman, 27
Tyree Levon Parker, 22, allegedly used a stolen firearm from an unlocked vehicle

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office in Florida has arrested a suspect who is charged with murdering an active-duty Coast Guard member outside her home.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Department on Tuesday announced the arrest of Tyree Levon Parker, 22, in connection to the Aug. 3 shooting death of 27-year-old Caroline Schollaert, who was trying to stop Parker from breaking into her car, according to authorities.

"While on the phone with the Communications Center, the victim confronted the suspect, held him at gun point [sic] and ordered him to remain until police arrived. Unfortunately, the suspect refused to comply or surrender. Instead, he fired several shots from a handgun, striking the victim," the sheriff's department wrote Tuesday in a Facebook post.

Parker allegedly used a stolen firearm from an unlocked vehicle in the neighborhood to shoot the victim, according to authorities.

When responders arrived at the scene, they attempted to perform life-saving measures on Schollaert, who eventually died of her injuries.

Several citizens provided "critical information" to authorities that ultimately led to Parker's arrest, the sheriff's office said. Authorities were offering an $18,000 reward for any information that would lead deputies to the suspect.

"Our homicide team has worked non-stop since the murder took place, following up every lead and collecting the mounting evidence. As a result, the suspect was identified and together with the State Attorney’s Office, an arrest warrant was issued. JSO detectives, patrol officers, and our SWAT team worked together and sought this suspect out," the sheriff's office wrote on social media.

Parker is charged with murder in the second degree and is currently awaiting trial.

Military members, veterans and other first-responders across the country commemorated Schollaert's life last week. The 27-year-old was a Virginia native and member of the U.S. Coast Guard Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron (HITRON) — a specialized unit that handles drug interdiction missions and is based in Jacksonville, Florida, according to the Patriot Guard Riders volunteer organization.

That's a really sad one. Negative Outcome for everyone involved.
When I give private lessons, if I need to demo, I use the student's gun. That way they don't think I'm using a tricked out SCCY to be able to shoot well.

It looks there was some type of mass shooting in Plymouth, England. From the reports, someone shot and killed 5 people and then killed themself. There were an other people wounded. Not much information, but the police are saying that it was *not* a terrorist incident.

    A description from the article:

"Eyewitness Sharron, who lives near Biddick Drive and did not want to give her full name, said what happened was "horrendous and so sad".

"Firstly, there was shouting, followed by gunshots - three possibly four to begin with," she said.

"This was when the shooter kicked in the door of a house and randomly started shooting... He ran from the house shooting as he ran and proceeded to shoot at a few people in the linear park up from the drive."

She said the "shooter proceeded along Royal Navy Avenue still shooting".

Another witness, Robert Pinkerton, said he "walked around the corner" and "bumped into a bloke with a shotgun". He said the man was dressed all in black."

Ex-San Antonio police officer hospitalized after shootout with Tennessee deputies
Lee Rakun was fired 6 times by SAPD and reinstated 5 times before retiring last year

A former San Antonio police officer who retired after a long history of misconduct may soon face criminal charges after he allegedly injured two family members and shot at a deputy in Sevier County, Tennessee, the KSAT 12 Defenders confirmed Thursday.

Lee Rakun, 52, was identified as the suspect in the shooting, which happened on July 13 at his home in the 3000 block of Robeson Road in Wears Valley, according to Sevier County Sheriff’s Office Chief Jeff McCarter.
Rakun’s charges are pending because the shooting left him hospitalized, McCarter said.
Deputies were called to the home just before 6 p.m., according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Rakun was armed when deputies arrived.

The confrontation escalated, authorities said, which resulted in a shootout between the deputies and the former police officer. Authorities said they are still determining who opened fire first.
Rakun was seriously injured in the shooting and taken to the hospital. Two of his family members were also treated for injuries that were sustained before deputies were called to the home, according to TBI.
A deputy was also injured in the incident, officials said.

Woman pointing gun’s laser sight for cat to chase shoots man, Wisconsin cops say

A woman is accused of shooting one of her friends Tuesday while using a gun’s laser sight as a toy, Wisconsin cops say.

Officers in Kenosha responded to an apartment Tuesday afternoon for reports of a man shot. When they arrived, they found a man had been shot in the thigh, according to a criminal complain.

Jashanti Pleasant, 19, had drunk several shots of brandy while at the apartment before picking up a gun brought by James Daniels, investigators determine

“ Pleasant turned on the laser sight and was pointing it at the floor to get a cat to chase it,” police wrote in the probable cause affidavit.

As Pleasant was pointing the 9mm gun between the floor and Daniels’ legs, Daniels told the woman, “Hey, let me get that.” The gun then went off, and a witness told police that Daniels stood in shock for a moment before asking Pleasant if she just shot him.

Officers found Daniels in a neighboring apartment and applied a tourniquet to his upper leg to stop the bleeding. He told officers he had removed the magazine from the handgun before the incident took place, according to police.

Pleasant said Daniels had allowed her to “play” with the gun and she also thought it wasn’t loaded at the time, police said. But an officer who recovered the gun found it had one bullet in the chamber and six in the magazine.

“If the magazine had not been inserted into the gun when Ms. Pleasant fired the shot, there would have been no round in the chamber later when the gun was found,” police said. “(The officer) determined that the bullet went through Mr. Daniels’ leg and then through a wall into the kitchen, where it hit the back of the stove.”

Pleasant called the shooting an accident and she apologized to Daniels, who she said forgave her, according to the complaint. She was charged with injury by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon.

Daniels was out on bond on nine counts of recklessly endangering safety while armed and was not allowed to possess any weapons, police said. He now faces additional charges, the Kenosha News reported.

Security guard released from custody after killing a man at a gas station in Cleveland’s Corlett neighborhood, police say

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland police released a gas station security guard from custody after he killed a man causing a disturbance at an East Side gas station.

Anthony Starks, 28, of Cleveland died in the shooting, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s office.

Police were called to the scene at 2:30 a.m. on Thursday. When officers arrived at the Sunoco Gas Station located at East 131st Street and Harvard Avenue, they found Starks inside of the gas station with multiple gunshot wounds to his body, Cleveland police spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia said.

Officers provided first aid to Starks until paramedics arrived and took him to University Hospitals where he died.

Police discovered that Starks caused a disturbance with a man in the gas station. The security guard intervened, and the man who was threatened by Starks left the gas station, police said.

The security guard asked Starks to leave the store, and he refused. An unidentified man walked in the gas station with a gun on his waistband. Starks snatched the gun from the man and pointed it at the security guard, who then fired his gun. Starks returned fire at the guard, but missed, Ciaccia said.

The security guard was released from police custody pending further investigation.
