Just for reference sake, a 5" steel gun is 45.7oz

    1.Wilson ETM
    2. CMC Power Mag
    3. Cobra Trip

by breaking the gun in with a quality 230g FMJ paying some attention to POA/POI given your hold-6 o'clock v. driving the dot. I would then find a 230g HD load it liked off the list below.

I strongly suspect that a DW will have no issues in the accuracy department. I suspect if you picked up the phone and call DW, they would tell you what bullet and hold they rec. with their gun/sight combos.

If you start shooting this pistol a lot, you may want to think about reloading ...but that is a different kettle of fish.
The Valor will likely shoot to the the top of the front sight, neither a "drive the dot" or "6 o'clock hold" style which IMO is preferred YMMV. This is based off of the few 5" .45 DWs I have owned.

As far as mags go my DW Specialist has no issues with the Wilson ETMs, DW (Checkmate), Tripp Cobra, or Chip mags. So buy what you can find on sale and drive on.

A properly built 5" 45 will run with any functional mag and in-spec ammo. All that mag/ammo finicky nonsense is the byproduct of poor build quality.

Dan Wesson has a five year warranty to the original owner, how is the service after the five years?

Went to order a Valor tonight. They've discontinued them. Snagged a specialist instead, maybe a Vigil next year.

I'm absolutely floored by this. The Valor was their flagship model. I can't help but feel like it will be coming back à la the CBOB.

I'd give Keith over at DW a call and ask if the Valor is what you really want. They do custom guns as well, and can probably mix and match existing features to get you a valor.

The Valor hasn’t been considered their “flagship” gun in several years, since they brought the rest of their guns up to the same standards as the Valors.

Keith and I talked a good bit last week. He basically said it was time for the Valor to go. He told me that they may, eventually, introduce a new gun with similar features. He also left the door open for the Valors to return someday, but it won’t be anytime soon.

I had a custom VBOB in .38 Super built earlier this year for my dad. Turns out it would be one of the last custom VBOBs. They’ll still do custom CBOBs though. You may be able to get one spec’d out similar to a Valor, but they won’t call it a Valor.

If that's the case, then people will buy the cheaper models as there's no reason to put the man hours into each pistol. If I could essentially get a Specialist without the rail, I'd be content.

If you still want one, there are some sub-$1200 deals on 9mm Valor Commanders out there right now. Hard to argue there's any better value in a 9mm 1911.

I'd be on it, except I was surprisingly unexcited after shooting several of Wilson's even nicer guns a few months back at a vendor day at a local range. It did remind me to take another look at all steel Sigs, though, which can be had for even less.

DW has said for the last several years that the only differences between their guns are the “features” (ball cuts, carry cuts, recessed slide stop, sight options, trigger options, etc). All the guns are hand fit and use tool steel and barstock parts. If you buy a cheaper model, you just get less features.
