I already seen one for sale online for $548 I think it was for 4.5" version. I'm not interested and I'm a sucker for 10mm for hunting. But their trp 1911 long slide is tits!

I don’t know what scares me more: Them not shooting (practicing) or them actually shooting (still not practicing) and sucking but thinking “good enough” because 10mm.

Has anyone here run one of these (XD/XDM) hard just to get some definitive data on how bad they are so as to have said data? It won’t dissuade the blind loyalists from buying but could encourage a newbie willing to learn to buy something better.

And yeah Springfield 1911s are nice, but that’s because they actually make them.

I use the 'How many PD's authorize XD's for duty use?' argument - but I'd sure love some solid test data.

Has the FBI ever evaluated the XD? If so, are those data public?

My wife is not a hard user, but before I bought her an XD9, I tried her out on almost every 9mm in existence as well as a couple of .380’s, .38 revolvers, and a .45. She shot the XD with greater comfort and accuracy than ANY of the others. The next time her gun malfunctions will be the first.

I prefer that she has what works for her instead of what the Internet thinks she should have.

How many rounds through it so far?

I do not keep track. Probably less than 1,000. Not exactly a torture test, but more than enough to verify that it does what I need it to do.

I understand most gun owners will likely never put more than 1k rounds through their firearm, so for them something that can withstand “hard use” isn’t high on their priority list. For most of them an XD(M), Taurus, SCCY or similar budget-friendly firearm will do just fine.

However there’s some comfort in knowing that a firearm can generally withstand some moderate abuse/neglect along the lines of going 3-4K rounds without cleaning and still be good to go. Sure any gun could likely crap the bed at any time because Murphy decided to play with it, but you tend to find fewer and far between examples with the more reputable manufacturers putting out quality firearms.

If your example of generally shunned gun X works fine, kudos and keep on trucking. It just doesn’t hurt to know the pitfalls of brand/model X (what’s most prone to breaking) and why it might be better to go with brand/model Y.

ETA: The good thing about Todd’s endurance tests was that they were just repeated exposure to various ranges and high round counts. Nothing like some of the overblown “torture tests” where an example of firearm A is crammed full of mud and tested to see if it will still run. The P-T endurance tests were more “Joe CCW” relevant.

Same with my wife, she loves hers. I would say she has between 500-1,000 rds through hers. She shoots her Shield more as its her carry gun and the XDM is nightstand duty. I was impressed by how soft shooting it was the few times I've shot it but didn't prefer the grip and trigger to my top tier choices for bedside duty (VP9, PPQ).

I have watched a half dozen guys from our local USPSA club shoot an XDM in 9 and .40 for the last four years. They seem no more or less reliable than other USPSA guns.
Likes pretty much everything in every caliber.

It’s quite possible they’re not the overpriced paperweights they were once deemed to be. One more reason I wouldn’t mind seeing someone from P-F put one through the paces.

I’d do it, but I’m broke.
