    CCW Intervention in Mass Shootings

Here is an interesting article on mass shootings and how they are often stopped by an armed citizen (not the police). The article details the numbers of incidents in recent years and how armed citizens have stopped the carnage by deploying their concealed handguns. See

I like David French’s articles. He and his wife got some threats from some nut jobs, I believe for his criticism of Trump. I don’t know if he carries but his wife does and has gotten fairly extensive training.

This seems to be a tricky topic, in that many trainers, legal experts, and CCW classes, say you should not get involved in these type of incidents, unless you are in the direct line of Fire, due to the legal BS that comes from shooting someone, despite wanting to help your fellow citizen.
It’s difficult to know what you’d do, until that moment arrives. Train, study, and more training, and hopefully we’ll be prepared to do whatever needs to be done in that moment.

In addition to the legality of involving yourself in an active shooter situation, my concern in my area would be being shot in the back by the open carry Bubba that’s late to react and doesn’t take the time through his mouth breathing to ID me as the good guy. As stated, it’s hard to know precisely what one would do in a situation like that, especially as a non-LEO.

That’s not the only problem. I’m pretty sure a adrenaline-fueled LEO (individual or group) would shoot you as well if you were visibly armed and engaged in an reported / audible active shooter situation. Fog of war and all that. Unless you are wearing your CCW sash and badge in which case it should all be good.

    /semi-serious, semi-sarc

How does anyone know you are a ‘good guy with a gun’?
Are you now, or have you ever been a member of the Doodie Project?

This is my biggest concern, as well.

As far as the legal stuff, if someone is in the process of mowing innocent people down, and I knowingly can stop it without risk to others, I’d like to think I would. Of course, you never really know until you’re there, despite what many of us would like to think. The only thing we can do is prepare as best we can.

Aside from interesting anecdotes, have their been any friendly fire incidents in active shooter situations, real world?

Not being sarcastic, I honestly don’t know, and can’t think of any off-hand.

IIRC I believe one member here reported a plainclothes officer showing up to a scene and getting shot by uniforms. I can’t recall the specifics.

It’s a plausible scenario to be sure, but I think given too much consideration.
