Added - my ankle is screwed, we did day trips from Breckenridge. If you pick a good base of operations (like Breck), there is a lot to see by car and easy hiking. For example, a circle trip from Breck on the rustic unpaved road across Boreas Pass to Como, down through Fairplay, through Alma and across Hoosier Pass back to Breck is a pleasant day of exploration and sightseeing. Breck to Leadville, up through Red Cliff, to Vail and back to Breck is another.

Don't take gummy bears from strangers.

We’ll be renting a Tahoe/Suburban that should be able to handle some fire roads too.

I like the idea of basing out of Breckinridge, or similar.

Thanks for the ideas, guys. Keep ‘me coming.

Guess elk hunting is out.. despite being grass fed, hormone free...

The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park is pretty awsome for Stephen King fans, but it also has awesome views of Rocky Mountain National Park with a telescope and a guide that points to the peaks in view.

For knife fans, there is the Spyderco Outlet, and the Coors and Anhieser Busch Breweries, both of which are interesting, and yet not just for those who drink.

I have heard good things about the Denver Zoo...

Not necessarily true. I'm 66 and from Louisiana and I was up there last Tuesday.

Good call. We’ll miss seeing the little ones but the red tide here is not getting better.

    Enjoy Colorado.
