Yeah, I’m not expert enough to predict when the resource wars will begin in ernest, but my gut tells me that we’ll still be doing pfestivus annually around here when they do.

It's sad that "western values" , and specifically "anglo-American values" are considered white values. The people who developed them happened to be white, but their whiteness had nothing to do with it. The people who taught me the most about them are either Jewish or black.

Africa would do well to adopt this value system. It's not perfect but it's the best that's been formed yet.

Leftism is based on human nature , and human nature without correction does much more harm than good. Sadly leftism caters to the human desire to be taken care of, to settle for less than you are capable of, and to worry more about feeling good vs doing good. Africa, like Latin America, is influenced largely by leftist thought. The corrupt governments and the disgusting UN only add to the tragedy.

The real enemy here is big corrupt government and crappy cultural values. Unless you fix those, you can't fix the problem.

Our ancestors at some point had crappy cultural values, and they had to change them to form a better society.

    Out of the frying pan......
OK, maybe, out of the fire, but back into the pan.

Trading a failing state that wants to strip you of your property for a state that doesn't allow private ownership of the means of production is an awful choice.

I think the key phrase here is "Chinese investment."
At least five farms have attracted Chinese investment in Mashonaland Central, a region to the north-west of Harare, that was traditionally one of the country’s best tobacco-producing areas.

Safe in the knowledge that Mr Mugabe’s policy of strengthening ties with China will offer a degree of protection, they have poured money into machinery and are taking advice from international experts.

China has become the largest investor in Zimbabwe, the economy of which is still reeling from the land seizures of 2000 and hyperinflation, has taken a nosedive once again.
These Chinese may have volunteered to do this, but they are almost certainly doing so with the approval and encouragement of the ChiCom government.

And, after all, it's not like a bunch of Chinese entrepreneurs aren't familiar with this aspect of the deal:
An insider in the tobacco industry said the Chinese company would be paying a hefty rental for the land they are now using to the “political” men who now own the farms.

Interesting that the farmers are considering immigrating to Russia. I understand the appeal for the Russians, but I am less sure of the appeal of Russia for the South Africans. Why not Australia, Canada, or New Zealand? Or even the USA?

Probably population density and available farmland based on my reading of the article.

Russia giving away free land, much like the US did 150 years ago?

If in the future, they try to seize land that is the subject of Chinese investment, will the Chinese government intervene militarily?

Maybe the indigenous peoples who were historically wronged by the Europeans should be given the opportunity to open casinos and earn untold riches.
