Yeah, I know I'm supposed to have pictures, but I was in a hurry.

I shot the Remington 514 I bought for my grandson. I'd forgotten how little a rifle in .22lr kicks. I stapled up what was probably my last B-6 center at 25 yards because I had no idea if it was zeroed. Using the factory sights and CCI Minimag off a rest, I put four rounds in the X (probably about an inch group) and pulled one high in the ten. Then I put it away.

I also got some practice with my P99c. I did four iterations of the Five Yard Roundup with scores from 93-96. Based on feedback from that, I did ten draws with one shot and then five with two (DA/SA). Then I packed it in - like I said, I was in a hurry.

It was good to get to the range. It was the first time I shot the P99c since before Laura.

I took the 6BR out to 825 today. It's an amazing little caliber and one that I cannot believe isn't more appreciated. 28-30 grains of powder behind a 105 grain bullet will get you to 1000 yards with more accuracy than cartridges much bigger in size. It also has excellent barrel life.

There were two loads to try, a 105 Nosler RDF over 29.4 grains of Varget, and a 105 Hornady BTHP over SW Precision. Lapua brass and BR4 primers were used.

Starting at 220 with the BTHP load, I aimed for the head on the silhouette. The rifle is zeroed for the 105 RDF load so windage was good but elevation was a touch low.

(Hits next to yellow dots are mine)

Next up were 300, 400, 500 and 600. 300 was a touch low again and right. I didn't feel the shot broke that well and probably pulled it a little right

At 600 I switched to the 105 RDF load. Strelok showed 3.7 mils and it was dead on.

Then I put a couple on a steel ram at 825. Wind was starting to kick up from the right so I held on the tail.

Had the Beretta's out to the range today, three 92D-X's and an LTT Centurion. Always nice to shoot metal frame 9mm's with good triggers, almost like cheating

While my main gun ( Volquartsen Black Mamba ) is back in for repairs I decided to give a little workout with my backup and one of the barrels I bought from the VQ Bargain Bin. I picked up a 5.5 inch Target Barrel and a 10 inch Barrel. Why? Because I could.

I've been shooting Steel Challenge for a number of years and have shot with a Red Dot sight most of the time. I just like shooting the dots. For a difference I put the 5.5 inch barrel on my Mark IV Lite frame to see how well I can shoot with iron sights. I was pleased to say the least.

After sighting in and getting everything centered I moved the target back to 25 yards. Shooting off hand I kept all shots inside of a 6 inch Shoot & See target. For me that's not too bad. I was never a bullseye shooting with my guns. I saved that for my Archery shooting.

The biggest thing I found today was that with the extra heft of the target barrel the sights never moved off target during recoil. My front sight is a Dawson replacement with a red fiber optic. I like the green better but couldn't find the replacement to put it on today. That sight showed up very well and I felt that I could see it even in the dark of the indoor range. Tracking was smooth and consistent as I tried 4 of my S&S targets on the same backing. Recoil is no problem.

I enjoyed it so much that I'm planning on shooting RFPI at next months match. I still haven't decided if I'll use the 5.5 or the 10 inch. I'm going to shoot the 10 next week. If it's not too heavy I may use it for the fun factor.

A few photos from the trip my girlfriend and I took this morning to the range to celebrate the Xmas holiday. She definitely outclassed me with the irons on her Ruger 10/22 ... probably a good sign i need to get a real prescription for my glasses sooner than later

    More rifles

I put some new shoes on the 6BR after the Vortex PST stopped dialing accurately. Midway was having a big sale on the Bushnell XRS II scopes so I picked up a 4.5-30x version, mounted, and sighted it in yesterday. The 5" 300 yard steel target was like shooting fish in a barrel.

Rifle #2 was the sporterized 1903 mk1 that I discussed in this thread

    Load-
    168 Hornady BTHP
    44.0 Hodgdon Benchmark
    Tula LRM primer
    Misc brass
    3.230 OAL

The goal when reloading for this was to keep recoil down while still maintaining accuracy. I didn't even try to do a load work up on this old gun, just took it to the range and put the peep sights on the top edge of the steel silhouette at 300. First shot returned a hit, as well as the next 7/8 shots. Recoil was nice and mild for a 30-06.
