An absolutely beautiful day out at Austin Rifle Club.

My Brother has been making noises about getting a somewhat big bore pistol to carry when camping and hiking. After Christmas I loaned him my G-20 and my SW 25-5 45 Colt so he could try both 10mm and 45LC.

He let me know that he had decided to go with 10mm. Today, we hit the range with his new Gen4 G-20 and our normal various G-19, G-26 and other sundry pistols.

I managed to put so many of my dirty, nasty, smoky 545fps 158 grain SWC 38 Special powderpuff loads through my 640 that the cylinder started binding up. Usually I just have to brush out the cylinder every 50 rounds or so. I ended taking the crane and cylinder apart to clean after I got home.

During practice, I figured out that I can shoot left-handed so much easier than right-handed that I am going to switch back to left since I shot that way all my life until a few years ago. If my rotator cuff issues flare up again I may switch back, but my left hand performance is so much better than my right.

The good thing is I still have all my left handed holsters.

Went to a match yesterday - had to drive through a serious snow storm. I could either go the twisted back roads along a creek or the long straight way. So I go for the twisty way - wondered if I was going for a swim, but the Forester made it just fine. Although on the way back, I took the longer way. Shot my G17 with SRO RDS. Third in accurancy, bottom in time as I stroll around.

Nothing interesting, the usual handloads betrayed someone. Tap, Rack, tap, OH SHIT - repeat.

Getting the hang of the RDS, at first - wasn't so hot, now it's clicking in for me.

Not a lot of pictures from yesterday's "Friday Hooky Range Session".

Tried the now problem child Supermatic Trophy with the original barrel to rule out the LSP barrel being the problem. I had the same failure so I'm calling it a magazine problem at this point. I've given the 50+ year old magazine a good scrubbing. If that doesn't fix it, I'll probably be listing it with the caveat it needs a magazine. I'm not a collector anymore and my MKIVs and PSA/AA Frankenstein run without drama. Plus, they aren't limited to SV ammo only.

I loaded the last 50 of my Berry's 158gr bullets plus 50 of their DEWC yesterday morning for the express purpose of getting some DA trigger time with the 19-9 and 442. After bragging on the first 100 Servicios Avernturas SPPs I loaded were working fine in a thread revchuck38 started, I had multiple rounds that needed a second (or third, or fourth) strike to light off. I believe they were all in DA with the 19-9 though, I don't remember any issues with the DEWC loads in the 442.

I also brought along the Benchmark Precision 9mm Springfield I just picked up. Spendy, but fun!

It took about 30 rounds for me to start getting comfortable with everything but once I did, it was a really fun pistol to shoot. These were the last 2 targets of the day. Right is 30 rounds of Norma 124gr at 7 yards. Cadence was as fast as I could get the sights settled on target which for me is probably 2-3 seconds per shot. Not stellar, but I'm working on it. Left target is 40 rounds of Scorpio 115gr, same cadence and I was certainly starting to get jumpy by the last couple of mags. The high shot on both targets was the first shot on each target as I worked out the sight picture.

    Bad ideas, brilliant execution

I don’t know who’s to blame for that but I know who didn’t do it!

Not a double tap, a three round burst!

In the earlier 90's I had SW 651. This was a 22 mag 3 inch J frame. I took it to the range and a box of commercial rounds - who knows what now - jammed the cylinder tight! I couldn't release it. Took a can of Gun Blasto (whatever then) to free it up and then taking it apart to clean the cylinder and frame. Lots of lead wipe cloths. At seven yards, it left a cloud of black something - burned powder - I assume on the paper target.

I sold it as the ammo was expensive, didn't have real use for it - carried it as side arm in the Hill Country when hunting the TX hippotamus - but I switched to my G19.

No pictures, just a quick session to check that the Fiocchi primers that my revolvers don't seem to like work okay in my autoloaders. Two of my Walthers, PPS and P99C, did fine with them.

The session might've been longer but I don't tolerate cold wind as well as I used to.

This qualifies as prep for my Louisiana Snowmageddan experience. Now I'm ready to load about 1500 rounds of 9x19 while stuck inside by the weather.
