I got to shoot my Black Mamba today. It's been a while do to the holidays and Covid so it felt real good being out. I shot a Steel Challenge Match. Fired over 200 rounds without a jam. Too bad my sights were off a little and I kept shooting over the targets. Screwed them back down and the rest of the day went much better.

Today was the first time I've shot since October, so to say I was overdue would be an understatement. I shot 93 rounds through my Glock 43. Shooting is definitely a perishable skill and my first few mags showed it. I shot up my old carry ammo and function tested some 147 gr HST. This is a really solid little pistol.

I also put 100 rounds through my G19.5 practice pistol. On round 8047, I experienced my first ever brass-to-the-face with this pistol. It was the last round in the mag and the brass smacked me on the left side of my forehead. I was planning to replace springs and extractor at 10K rounds, but if this gets to be a habit, I might have move that schedule up some.

    Range day.

Me: raptor grip Shockwave-S, G19.5 with 3 mags & LCR in Renegade ankle rig (in case we're both somehow dry when the new Platt & Matix show up.)

Training partner: braced Shockwave, braced Tac-14 (pump) and braced Tac-13 (semi-auto), G19 & eleventy mags. He also brought the widget that converts a standard 590 to feed 1.75" shells.

Shockwave- ran everything I fed it, even with tubes staggered with standard & shorty loads. We shot:
    1.75" Federal #4 buck
    2.75" Federal #4 buck
    2.75" Federal 00 buck (9 pellet)
    2.75" cheapy Rio 00 buck (9 pellet)

Neither of us could really tell the difference in recoil between any of them in any platform save that the Federal 00 was a hair stouter. Nothing about the recoil is unpleasant with my 590S. I use more muscle to run it while actually firing, but no part of me takes any abuse from the recoil. I'll fire some slugs through it next time.

15 pellet Federal #4 buck mini-shells patterned nicely and you get 8 of them in the tube...that's tough to complain about, brace or no.

2.75" Federal 00 turned in the best patterns in my 590S and the worst in my friend's Tac-14.

Orange XS Big Dot sight on 590S is a yuge boon.

    I thoroughly dig it.

Started the recommended break in process on my AP5-P. Had 4 failures in 120 rounds

Also put 60 rounds through the Gen 5 G20 MOS though I was not able to get an optic mounted.but it was promising with SIG and Armscor 10mm FMJ.

Had a weird issue with a PD trade in 870.

When attempting to fire from the shoulder the gun would light strike and fail to fire. This occurred both with “push pull” and conventional “pull into the shoulder” methods.

However, the gun fired consistently from CQB short stock and under arm positions. Never encountered an issue like this with an 870 (or any other shotgun). @LHS ?

That's a new one for me. Never seen that that I can recall.

Just took it out to the range to put a couple of hundred rounds through it….

    Very satisfactory in every respect.

@HCM have you checked the firing pin return spring on that 870? That malfunction, like Chewbacca living on Endor, don’t make no sense.

Haven’t checked anything yet but that’s a good place to start.

There are a couple of areas on the right side of that spring that look suspicious, but it’s hard to tell in a photo maybe just dirt. If you replace it at least you’ll know that’s not the problem. My only other thought is maybe it’s not locking fully into battery for some reason and the locking lug is still blocking the the FP, but neither of those explain why didn’t fire from the shoulder, but worked in under arm retention.

Maybe @Clusterfrack or another mod could move our couple of posts to ask the armorer or shotguns where other folks will be more likely to see them.
