    Bergara B14R .22 Long Rifle

I spend most of my shooting time with a 6BR and 6 Dasher, but our range recently started a 100 yard .22 rimfire match the last Saturday of each month. I had a good day at Prince Memorial Gun Range today….came in 1st and 2nd in the Factory class 100 yard .22 LR benchrest match. (I shot the same rifle in both relays)

It’s a Bergara B14R, with a Nightforce 12-42 scope and a Gemtech suppressor. The ammo was Eley Match.

As you can tell from my attire, it was cool and breezy for a late March day in North Louisiana.

I’m 82 and usually struggle to find a place in the middle of the pack so it was a very fine shooting day for me.

A Bergara is one of my wants when I get back around to buying and shooting .22 rifles again.

They are pretty impressive for the money spent.

Friday I got to shoot my S&W 617 and my Walther ( Colt Gold Cup Trophy 1911-22 ) with my best friend. He hasn't been to the range in 2 years and I finally talked him into getting out of his house. He brought along his Taurus 457 Tracker and Ruger Mark III Hunter.

We both had a good time shooting from a bench at 15 yards on Shoot & See targets. It helps us be able to find our shots will little effort. Both of us need that since we are in our 70s and don't see all that well. I brought along my Nikon binoculars to help and good thing. I was able to get my friend to walk his gun into the center of the target.

My Gold Cup worked pretty well but needs an adjustment. I was getting hammer follow. I'll form the center leaf on the Sear Spring and that should do it. I was able to keep everything into a 4 inch group shooting without using a rest.

My 617 worked great. I just put my red dot sight back on it, sighted in and then kept everything in the center of my target. I shot 30 shots on a clean target using the bench as a rest with my grips touching the top. One hole groups dead center and about 1.5 inches. I love shooting my revolvers.

    What did you shoot today?

200 round Production practice. Warmed up with Doubles and Practical Accuracy, freestyle, SHO, and WHO from 20-7yds. I was feeling really relaxed and had the best SHO results ever (0.20s splits, all As).

A trigger return spring broke and had to be replaced. My records show almost exactly 20k live fire plus who knows how many dryfire cycles. I’m guessing at least 100k total.

I finished with some wide transitions, a 2 position short movement drill, and some 2-sided leans.

Been vetting this 19 and 10rd mags. Put 30rds blazer 115 and 50rds gold dot 124+p. This is 10rds of gold dot at 7 yards. One flier. Discovered the Spartans shoot the dot not tip of front sight. Shot 180rds of mixed ball and hP of different ammo last week. 260 total rounds so far.

In the desert, looking for water.
    S&W 642-2, S&W 15-4, G19X.

Verified POI with some S&B wadcutters I scrounged up with both revolvers, plus a cylinder through the 15-4 of some 158gr SWCHP handloads I’d made prior to the revolver round-up but never shot any of.

One box of S&B FMJ through the 19X: draw to first shot from concealment. Hadn’t done this in live fire in quite a while, so I set a generous par time of 2.5. By the time I got through the first magazine, I was consistently making the hit in under 2.0, so started adding a second shot to a second target 4’ to the side of the first, and spent most of the rest of the box repeating that drill, switching movement left and right. Last few rounds - chased a single bullet hole that was out of the big group on one target for a little trigger control work.

Then I went home and took my wife to a movie. Hadn’t done that in a while, either.
