I don't think it got out of the 30s here today. Last night was in the 20s and we got a little bit of snow. If there is any sort of risk of "bad" weather, it usually means that the pistol range is empty, so I decided that it would be a great day for me to go shoot. I was surprised to see a lot more snow 10 miles away at the pistol range than at my house, but certainly not enough for snowshoes. I took my G19 practice gun and my Beretta APX Centurion. I originally intended to only shoot a third of my ammo through the APX, but I ended only shooting the APX. I'm not quite as good with it as my G19, but I'm definitely closing the gap. I think I love the APX so much because I only paid $300 for it. If I'd paid $600 for it, I'd find it much less interesting.
I shot a PRS Rimfire Match yesterday and last weekend shot a NRL22 match. Maybe it’s new gun-itis but I’m digging this new-to-me discipline.
NRL22 match I didn’t do so good. Had a couple stages where I hung in there but had too many small issues on the other stages that kept me in the lower 1/2 of the match finish. Plus I got destroyed on the longer range stage shooting off a tank trap. My positioning felt good, but just couldn’t connect with the plates @ 100 and 200.
I hit the range mid-week and started all over again. Re-zero’d at 50 yds and confirmed were I was hitting at 100, 200 and 300. Turns out my actual POI was a few tenths of a mil higher than what my Kestrel was telling me. So I trued my data and recalculated my dope for a higher velocity than what I had previously entered.
I was a little nervous about the PRS match on Saturday since that club is known to stretch the distance out. Fortunately there was only one stage @ 300, the rest were <200. First two stages (which included the long one) I shot like crap, but by the 3rd stage I hit my stride and started to get 3/4 or more of my stage hits. Got lucky and cleaned one stage including first round hits on the 1/2” and 1/4” KYL (my first). Ended up finishing dab smack in the middle of the pack, but it felt good.
Shot a USPSA match today (Sunday) and shooting pistol was like coming home. But all I can think about is getting back on the rimfire rifle.
Shot our monthly Steel Challenge Match. It was beautiful today with temps starting out at about 55 degrees and no wind. Got up to 70 before the match was over.
Normally we shoot all 8 stages but for the past two weeks there was standing water on the range and the setup crew couldn't get into two of the bays so we only shot 5 stages. It took a lot longer to shoot even though there was less shooting. We had to wait over an hour to shoot one stage, there were so many people backed up.
I had a great match. At 70 I'm still learning how to play this game. I shoot a Black Mamba .22 and was using CCI 38 grain Mini Mag Hollow Points. At least my gun likes them. Only problem I had was next to my last run I had a case separation. The gun fired out of battery and I got lots of gas and powder burns. With one run to go someone in the squad lent me their Mark IV 22/45 Lite so I could finish without eating a 30 second stage.
They had a Holison sight on their gun. I normally shoot C-More Railways but actually liked shooting the large circle and small dot. I may have to buy one of these in the future.
Getting back to Production gear after a few months of CO. Main focus: relaxation and seeing the freaking rear notch. Relaxation and the speed that results from it are solid. Still need a lot of dry fire to work on the fine vision stuff.

Just wrapped up a 300 round low-light training session with my GLOCK 47/ACRO/TLR-1 (work gun).
H&R Topper 158 with my son.
Fresh snowfall was a great visual of pattern width, and stringing.
Showed penetration of #6 at 7, 15, and 25 yards on milk jugs and soda cans.
A cold, fun, snow day for my boy.
